Snow's been gm since 2007. He dealt the 2007 first in the Ryan Smyth trade. The Oilers took Plante 15th overall.

In 2008, Snow dealt down and took Bailey 9th overall, but also came out of that draft with Hamonic,Martin, Ullstrom, Donovan, Ness, Poulin, Petrov.

In 2009 Snow drafted Tavares.
In 2010 he drafted Nino.
In 2011 he drafted Strome
In 2012 he drafted Reinhart.

Strome/Reinhart have not sniffed NHL action. Nno's 2nd pro season is this season and he's in the AHL.

Kind of hard to say Snow's top youngsters end up average at best, with such a small sampling.

You're right, you con't write off all of Snow's drafted players yet. But he hasn't developed many either.

Who the Oilers took has no bearing on the conversation. Perron, Blum, Backlund, or Smith could also have been for the taking with that pick.

I don't think Bailey has proven he would be a 2nd line centre on most teams he's been injured a lot and when he finally did have a full year last year 32pts isn't what you would hope for 9th overall yet. His next year is going to be very important. I like Hamonic but you're really optimistic with the rest of those guys. 7 players in the top 73 picks and of those you have 2 NHL players.

I really like Nino, Strome and Reinheart as Juniors and I hope you are right and they won't get thrown into the Islander shredder of prospect development.

Good for him. He needs a year like this in the AHL so he can transition his scoring touch to the pro level and improve his game.

Probably not, I'd like for him to stay the whole year in the AHL and get called up for injury reasons only, let him tear up the A. He'll get his opportunity soon enough, and hopefully he'll have full confidence when he gets his chance.

I think it's great. I hate when HFers proclaim a young player a bust after struggling just 1 or 2 seasons into their pro careers so it's good to see Nino shut up some of the critics at least momentarily, it would have been nice if Paajarvi did the same this season but it's still early.
It would be nice if the Islanders (Oilers east) are near the top of the league along with the Oilers in a few years and Nino could be a big part of that for them if he builds on this hot start.

He JUST turned 20 in Sept, and he's on pace for 45 goals in the AHL ! Based on 70 games played. That's pretty damned good for someone his age. I'm very happy he didn't let last year's disaster ruin him, he's back to being a major prospect in the Isle's slew of prospects.

26. I got a lot of requests on Sunday for updates on prospects. More of that than anything else. So I emailed two NHL guys who have great AHL eyes and asked them to let me know who they liked. They weren't shy. Both agreed on (NHL team in parenthesis): Nino Niederreiter (NYI), Tomas Tatar (DET), Jason Zucker (MIN), Justin Schultz (EDM), Oliver Ekman-Larsson (PHO), Richard Panik & Tyler Johnson (TB), Jake Gardiner (TOR).

Executive A said he could've done two or three players per team, but cut down to: Jordan Eberle (EDM), Brayden Schenn (PHI), Brock Nelson (NYI), Nazem Kadri (TOR), Justin Faulk (CAR), Gustav Nyquist (DET), Roman Horak, Sven Baertschi & Barry Brust (CAL), Robin Lehner (OTT) and Curtis McElhinney (CLB).

He's shown a ton of character. I think Snow actually got it right in 2010 with Nino and Brock.

Nino needs a playmaking center to truly unlock his potential. It's a good thing the Isles have a couple of decent options in that department.

I'd love to see him get a real shot on that Tavares-Moulson line. I would like to see Strome stick as the 2C instead of moving to JT's RW. Nino is the key though. If he pans out, our top-6 is essentially set with himself, Tavares, Moulson, Bailey, Okposo and Strome. Even our 3rd-line will be pretty strong with Nielsen and Grabner. That should allow us to invest whatever available salary into a top-2/3 defenseman.

I really like the way this team is forming. Probably the most solid core we've had in a long time.

I am almost always a fan of swiss players, glad to see he's showing some of the potential he did in his draft year. Islander's have a nice core going forward:
