Niklas Hjalmarsson absolutely destroying Karlsson's ankles.

Have to admit that's pretty hilarious.

I know this is an attempt at humour since Pens fans are even more obsessed with that incident than Sens fans, but Karlsson doesn't stop on his left side here, or pivot with his left foot anymore. His ability has been hampered by the injury and it's pretty ignorant to think it doesn't affect his play.

Practice type of situations?

its just practice. ask brown

The significance of it is that it shows how bad of a defender Karlsson is. This would not even happen to an average defender. He may score goals, but you cannot get burned like that as a defenseman.

I'm far from being a Sens fan, but you're taking this way too seriously (as some Sens fans do too)...

Yea, I definitely wouldn't use this as a definitive example of Karlsson being bad at defense. I'd honestly just be more impressed by Hjalmarsson having some moves up his sleeves.

I do wish Quenneville used Hjalmrasson on the PP. Dude has a very hard slapshot. He can dangle when he wants to. I didn't think he could break ankles like that but he can dance.

I am not an Ottawa fan by any measure so I could be missing something, but it looks like Karlsson averages around 100 hits a season. It's not a huge number but it's also definitely not low. Where does the idea that he doesn't play the body come from?

Karlsson scores too many points, so he has to be terrible at everything else. Otherwise, he looks like he's a lot better than the other defensemen in the league.

Let's get two things clear. First of all it is practice so Karlsson is a bit late into that situation. I mean, Datsyuk couldn't have pulled out a better than that as it gets just by the side of Karlsson's skate and he trying to kick it with his skate is what caused him to get out of balance.

One has to admit he often does not play the body like he should and pokes his stick around like an 8 year old.

These are the kind of plays (in real games) that brings the hate and always will.

So did Lidström. I guess Lidström also played like an 8 year old. Does that mean other NHL players play like 4 year olds? And doesn't that mean every other player not in the NHL play like toddlers?

Haha Karlsson looked ridiculously silly there.

I think that he's pretty good defensively without the puck but it's of course not his biggest strength and not the reason he's a world class defenseman(The best in the world IMO).

He's not the best defenseman at defending physically but saying that he is bad at it is ridiculously stupid.

look like EK bashing threads have started already. Gotta love these hahah... you realize this was a practice right? and game situations, players hit/tie up a guy... what an odd thread

Always fun to see how obsessed with EK people are. Even EK haters look for anything at all involving EK to post on here.... and this practice clip is the latest lol

swing and a miss

Was expecting something at least 10x more impressive than that was.

Haha what do you expect!

I had a laugh there, Karlsson looks really dumb and looks like he can't skate, but everyone who has played or is smart enough knows you fool around a lot in practice especially in between drills. What's more pathetic is people taking this to judge Karlsson's defense... yikes, we've set new highs!

But who are we kidding, Karlsson makes a pass that could've been better on Barkov's goal the other day and he's 100% to blame. No one looks around on the context or anything, nothing. No one looks that Rackell could easily have had that pass, or that he was wide open and all other players of team Sweden were covered and Karlsson was hard pressed, no, no, context out the window because EK, as usual. Getting kind of sad and bad to read the main boards when you try to get a fair view of Karlsson from other fan-bases, jealousy and bias is all over the place.

I agree, it's not a serious knock on his actual ability to defend, but it does show he can be dangled that badly. I too had a laugh.

Playing around in practice you always get dumber and try everything so I take it with a grain of salt but a knock I have on Karlsson sometimes is he is too much focused on the puck and too agressive with his approach which leads him to get beat more than the other top dmens. He's still not bad on defense to me.
