My own bias would like to point out that Pasta is still up there and, at this point, I think it's fair to say no one is carrying him. His C last year was Krejci and his C this year is Zacha. I'm starting to think Pasta is the straw that stirs the drink. Imagine if his C was McDavid? Or Mack?

As far as the race... I still say McDavid. I think Hughes could make a serious run too. Obviously Kucherov. Also, waiting for a few Canuck players to move up the list. Seems a little low for Canuck standards with only 3 guys on the list.

Malkin 2012 didn't have Crosby taking the pressure off him. He does well with or without Crosby playing.

I’m not saying Malkin isn’t a great player. Believe me, I’m a Lightning fan - I’ve seen firsthand (in the playoffs) what he can do. Peak Malkin was absolutely a beast.

All I’m saying is that Kucherov has accomplished things that Malkin never did, both in the regular season and in the postseason, and that to diminish Kuch’s dominance by referring to him as a “soft offensive specialist winger” or whatever was said earlier in the thread is ludicrous.

Anyone with an ounce of intelligence and a pair of eyes can see that is close.

… and if Crosby entered the league the same time as McDavid, Sid likely wouldn’t see a 1st in the Art Ross… probably wouldn’t see a 2nd either.
Good one lol. Comparing drai to crosby is wild

In an Art Ross topic… absolutely. Thinking he shouldn’t be is more laughable.
Draisaitl would be 15-20 pts behind Crosby, and 5-10 behind Ovechkin (at hos three year peak only )

He isnt anywhere near those guys offensively at their peaks

Mcdavid --> 3rd to 5th greatest player ever
Crosby --> 6th to 10th
OV--> 8th to 12th

At their peaks they would be right with 97

Crosby ppg: 6 x 1sts (2007, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015), 2 x 2nd (2008, and 2017) and 2 x 3rd (2009, 2010)

Crosby/OV played their 8-9 year primes in a low scoring environment, with higher end goalies and NHL promoting defensive/grinding hockey. Goalies had bigger equipment which when reduced along with heavy PP increases saw high scoring environment than draisaitl has played in

Draisaitl ppg - 1x 1st (2020) 2 2x 2nd (2021, 2023) 1 x 4th (2019)

A 10 point gap in McDavid with 3/4 of the season left?

McDavid will win this by 15+ points…
Lol, still remember all the guys here confidently saying that in 2018-19, then those guys disappeared from the threads towards the end of the season.

Crosby ppg: 6 x 1sts (2007, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015)
Malkin was #1 in 2012.

Counting only 1/4 of the season completely changes entire NHL stats history.

Sure but to be fair that was before McDavid showed he could average around two points a game for 2 seasons as well as playoffs. If I were betting I go with McDavid 1st and Kucherov finishing 2nd, but then again wouldn’t be shocked if Pastrnak or Panarin end up there too.

Those? Great, so did Tom Kühnhackl.

Stanley Cup's won by all sorts of mediocre players all the time, Art Ross is a significantly more prestigious achievement.
Kühnhackl won back to back Conn Smythes? Must have missed that.

And just so we're crystal clear because the first part of my post is sarcasm, Conn Smythe >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Art Ross by a massive power gap.

This is such a stupid post man. @ijuka really thought he had one here.

If you want to talk to an objective and fair Penguin fan (who is still quite passionate about their team) then by all means talk to me. Most of the guys on here that troll as pens fans aren’t from Pittsburgh and probably haven’t even been to a home Pens game in their lives. Most are from Canada (nothing wrong with that) from reading through their posts and just latched on to the success of our team and our generational players. I’m convinced most of them don’t actually watch games either and just box score watch/parrot the talking points. Nothing wrong with that but the trolling and commitment to hate of Oilers stars in particular is hilarious. Gretzky and McDavid are so rent free that they can’t even enjoy their lives and dedicate hours on a forum attacking the fans of superior players.
I for one love the success the penguins have had but coming on here I wanted to see what people had to say and engage in actual discussions with well read/serious fans. Why would I show insecurity as a pens fan? I wouldn’t because I’m actually a real fan and have been since the late 70s.

If you really want to rile up a Pens “fan” (troll) though you could do two things. You could combine Crosby and Lemieux’s careers and compare it to just Gretzky and you get:

Gretzky Career:
1487 GP: 2857 PTS (1.92 PPG)
+520
4 Cups
2 Smythe (led the playoffs in scoring 6 times)
9 Hart
10 Ross
15 All Star
20 seasons
40 Total Accolades

Lemieux and Crosby Career combined as of today:
2119 GP: 3251 PTS (1.53 PPG)
+337
5 Cups
4 Smythe (3 playoff scoring leads combined)
5 Hart
8 Ross
17 All Star
35 seasons (36 in process)
39 Total Accolades

Lemieux and Crosby from when they won their first award to their last (‘86-‘01 for Mario and ‘07-‘19 for Crosby):
1577 GP: 2584 PTS (1.64 PPG)
+374
5 Cups
4 Smythe (3 playoff scoring leads combined)
5 Hart
8 Ross
17 All Star
25 seasons
39 Total accolades

You can show them that the two best that we have all time can’t surpass Gretzky on his own.

You could also mention that McDavid’s 3 Harts, 4 pearsons and 5 art Ross have blown past Crosby and only at the age of 26. As a matter of fact all McDavid needs to do is win another Ross in his career and his individual trophy case outside of Cups/playoff awards will MATCH Mario Lemieux’s. In all likelihood he will win more harts, pearsons and Ross so he will surpass any penguin in that regard. They troll for a reason.

As for the Ross race Kucherov is good enough and consistent enough to win it due to the poor start and injury but McDavid winning would be no surprise at all. He’s been averaging 135 per 82 since 18-19. No player other than McDavid from post lockout has done that once.

Kuch seems to have multi point games just as much
If you take point per game over the past X number of years (you choose the X!), McDavid projects to win the scoring title.

Lol, still remember all the guys here confidently saying that in 2018-19, then those guys disappeared from the threads towards the end of the season.

You're citing 22 year old McDavid from 5 seasons ago... he is a much more dominant player now.

Kucherov had peaked, and remains at that peak.

Lol. First of all you don't have to be from a city to be a fan of that team. Second of all without crosby there would be no team in Pittsburgh as they were on the brink of relocation thanks to being terrible and no fans attending. It is the generational player crosby who saved the franchise. So majority of the current fan base are only fans because of him and Malkin.
Lastly, I'm from Canada and I have driven to Pittsburgh to watch a live game at the consol energy center and bought an authentic 92 Mario jersey in town. So think a lil before you ramble and come off your high horse. Cause your shit doesn't smell like roses champ.

In order to "blow past" Sid and Mario, he's going to not only need a ring and a Conn Smythe, but multiple. Until then, 97 is playing catch-up.

Nice……..

Granted I should have just addressed any of the pens “fans” that I referred to outright but I see you took great offense. Yeah I was stunned with your posts from the beginning to be honest because in one breath you do have knowledge of the sport but in another all you do is spread bias and hate towards players that threaten your favorites. I saw in one of your posts you said you were from Toronto if I remember correctly. I’ve also seen old posts in threads from years ago that have your old account names. SIDMIEUX, GOAT66, Ageless66 like come on we know your bias is insane.

If you really think that I need a lesson on the franchise I follow or the city I’m from then that’s absurd. I am a big pens fan just like you are. I personally know your idol Mario Lemieux. If you wanted to ever verify that I’d be okay with that our kids played hockey together at one point. I’ve met Crosby, Geno several other penguins just from being involved with youth hockey in the city. By the way it’s cool that you did come down and see a game/purchased that. I’m not your enemy my man.

Any interaction I’ve ever had with you I was respectful and nice. When you asked for adjustments I gave them and I’ve even liked several of your posts because not all I disagree with. Just the insane hatred toward McDavid and open bias towards Wayne are the areas of contention I’ve had with you. If you think that I’m gatekeeping as a pens fan then maybe that might be a fair criticism of me but that’s not my intention. I am also not on a “high horse”. You just disagree with a pens fan that says what an objective fan would say because it doesn’t fit your narrative and you are fed up. We are fans of THE SAME TEAM. If you really want to make a martyr one of your own on here have at it but genuinely I think your posts pertaining to McDavid are completely ridiculous and given the engagement with said posts virtually the entire site agrees.

That’s why I phrased it as purely regular season awards. I don’t believe that he will match them in that playoff award department. I think both guys will rank higher than McDavid by the end of his career if McDavid doesn’t win. I don’t think he is better than Lemieux but I do think he is better than Crosby.
