I’m confused about one thing.

Since every Oiler owes all their accomplishments to McDavid, which I read on this forum every day, doesn’t that make McDavid the Hart trophy winner in a landslide?

Re: being due to win the Hart. I tend to agree that post seasons and being so close so long shouldn't matter. When it comes to the NBA I find myself thinking a bit differently, I think Luka Doncic deserves the MVP. Of course the MVP between these two sports is traditionally voted by somewhat different standards.

Even so, the brightest of the brighest superstars, best among the best, shouldn't be punished for their prolonged excellence just because it gets boring. Furthermore, Hart Trophy isn't the only accolade an MVP-level player can get.

I know. I have wagers on Mackinnon to win the Hart.
Good bet. Even if one of the other guys beats him by 5 or 6 points they will give it to Mac. I think for McD or Kuch to win they would have to be at least double digits ahead of Mac in points which is not too likely at this point

Well, I actually have wagers on all of them, at varying points in the season.

I got a veerrryyyy good price on Kucherov early, and would really like him to win because it would be a nice payout. He'll have to win the Art Ross at minimum to make it happen though.

I put a decent amount on Mackinnon once I realized the MSM narrative basically decided Mack was going to win in December.

And I put a little on McDavid recently, just to ensure I end up with a profit any way it goes.

the irony is the year everyone points to for MacKinnon being "due" for a Hart McDavid got robbed way worse than he ever did

MacKinnon still finished 2nd in Hart voting that year, McDavid won the Art Ross that year while leading his team in scoring by almost as much as Hall did and finished 5th in voting just because his team happened to not make the Playoffs

if anyone is due anything from that year it's McDavid

Pastrnak has a 40 point-lead over the Bruins second-leading scorer and is clearly the biggest individual reason the Bruins - after losing their 1 & 2Cs - are winning their division and are tied for 2nd overall. He's got a real shot at hitting 50 goals too.

Yet, in a Sportsnet article today discussing the race for the Hart he's not even mentioned ... Matthews is, Josi is, but Pastrnak? Not even a mention.

With four heavyweights vying for Hart Trophy, who has the best case?

The big 3 in then everyone else. Pretty much the sentiment.
Matthews the sniper a cut above the rest at buldging the twine.
Also , without as much credit is Pastrnak. Does not have the big name superstars around him yet he's racked up 102 points. 46 goals. Leading his team to first east.
Impressive to say the least.

Mcdavid was well behind the leaders majority of the season. Kuch led for like 85 percent of that season. Mcdavid got hot when the oilers were eliminated and racked up points in garbage time to win the ross

Here's a completely arbitrary stat. Kucherov is now one of only 10 players in NHL history to score 128+ points in a season more than once:
  • 13x - Wayne Gretzky
  • 6x - Mario Lemieux
  • 4x - Phil Esposito
  • 3x - Guy Lafleur, Marcel Dionne
  • 2x - Bobby Or, Steve Yzerman, Bryan Trottier, Jari Kurri, Nikita Kucherov
Connor McDavid will soon become the 11th player in NHL history to do this - perhaps as soon as tonight.

(Kucherov now has the record for most assists in a season by a winger. He was still tied with Jagr heading into tonight. Kucherov now ranks 1st, 3rd and T-4th for most assists in a single season by a winger).

I hate McDavid, I am so jealous of him, no one was supposed to be better than Crosby. Then McDavid came along and ruined everything, he flipped my world upside down, I have my ego stapled to Crosby and I don't know how to handle McDavid being better than him.

:help:
You serious? Wasted your time to change to my old username? Thats something I havent seen in 10 years on this site

Why do you call it arbitrary, 128 in binary is 10000000 which is pretty cool number of binary points 🤓

Didn’t he just tie himself and Jagr with his second assist tonight?
