Is there anything anywhere about there being an out clause in his KHL contract?

Players buying out the final year of their contracts (sometimes with the financial help from the recruiting team, disguised in signing bonuses and all ) is common practice in the KHL. It's really not an issue if he wants to come over.

Another 1+1 game for Nikita. He's 7+9 after 12 games and the 3rd in scoring in the whole league, 1 point behind Mozyakin and Kovalchuk.

Its great to see how this organization keeps pumping out late round picks. Some sort of weird magic going on. And for all the worries about his size and game translating he is about the same size as Drouin/Kucherov/Namestnikov, etc. He is definitely proving he has the skill set ... can't wait to get him on a Lightning uniform.

Too bad the KHL doesn't provide advanced stats the way the NHL does but I'm almost convinced Gusev leads the league in points/minutes player by a fair margin. Also, out Nikita's 7 goals, 6 of them were scored at even strength. He's a lot more than just a PP specialist.

Granted I haven't checked every SKA boxscore but on more than one occasion I've seen Gusev score "garbage time" goals that had little to no actual effect on the outcome. I hope he's contributing more than just padding his stats late in games. Tomas Vanek made a killing doing that around 2006-2008 and would score twice after Buffalo already had a 3-0 lead and would finish the night with a 5-1 victory.

Most of SKA goals are garbage time goals, because 80% of SKA games look like an NHL team vs AHL teams...

1+2 for Nikita and 24 points in 18 games.

I was looking at that earlier. What is most surprising is his TOI numbers. The scoring leader has 5 more minutes of TOI than Gusev on a per game basis. Kovalchuk who is second in the scoring race has 3.5 more minutes of TOI per game than Gusev. Kid is a scoring machine.

What is more interesting, he usually plays with Shipachev and Dadonov, they have great chemistry and everything, but during WCH he played with Barabanov and Koskiranta, and his scoring didn't drop at all, and Barabanov's and Koskiranta's went significantly up. So it looks like Nikita makes players around him better. A very valuable quality.

He's doing better right now than Panarin did in his last KHL season.

It's truly amazing. When you are surrounded by world class talent you in turn will help them as they will help you. I think we can now reasonably expect that we will sign Gusev after next year because there's no reason to not expect this young man to be a 20 goal scorer at minimum. In 2018 Filppula will be a UFA, Killorn may be lost to expansion and nobody knows even now about Ryan Callahan. There's going to be some spots opening up soon and you might as well have the star KHL winger who is best friends with Kucherov come and fill one of them.

When Panarin came to Chicago he got a two year contract for $812,500 per year with $3,500,000 in bonuses and it is a two-way contract. That looks like an ELC contract for a high draft pick but Panarin was undrafted.

What kind of contract would Gusev get if he came over? ELC?

That is awesome. Go goose go! What a prospect to have

I will always remember the draft when we took Gusev. In the forth round people were talking about how we should draft him then. In the fifth round everyone was talking about how he was going to be the value pick of the draft. When he was there in the sixth, people were screaming to take him. When we took him in the seventh everyone was just shaking their heads mumbling something about how we were drafting gods haha.

Only other time I saw something like that was with Point, and look how that turned out!

I was on board for the Point draft. I had no idea who the kid was, but there was this sort of swelling of excitement that we could/should get him.

Imagine if we could have signed Panarin instead of the hawks. Were we even in the mix?

Need to get Gusev over here
