I think this one is interessing because both players are often considered to be the best affiliated prospects outside of the NHL, played their season on SKA together and may soon be coming over. Who do you think will have the better career and/or bigger impact in the NHL?

I think Nikishin will have a very solid career, but I am not sold on him being a #1D. He may be, but I feel like the KHL is not as strong as it is perceived to be. He is not so young and has size advantage, but I think this advantage may be further mitigated in the NHL. I still expect him to be a good #3, maybe #2. I am also very open to the possibility that I am wrong and that he is better than I think.

Meanwhile, I think Demidov has star potential, since he did very impressive things at 19 yo. He has a lot of runway to transfer his KHL success to NHL success and then keep on growing. I also think he will fit perfectly with players like Hutson and Suzuki. I think that will amplify his impact.

Yes, but also the KHL is not as strong as perceived so you can't take what Demidov did without a large amount of skepticism attached to it. I think he will be a decent 2nd line player maybe and maybe can be someone who can one day drive a 2nd line and 2nd PP. I am also very open to the possibility that I am wrong and that he is better than I think.

Agreed. I am aware that my assessment that the KHL isn't that strong cuts both ways, since they are both in the same team and league.

To me, the fact he achieved that level of success at that young age is a factor that enhances his potential, but his adaptation the the NHL is not a given and your idea of him, while I would think is on the lower side of his potential, is in the realm of possibilities.

And on what do you base yourself to think he ll be a « decent » 2nd liner, when he put up similar production than Michkov in the same league and look what Michkov is doing this season. Do you have an actual analysis about his play that makes you come to this conclusion, or is this purely based on feeling?

I may be wrong but I think that post was designed to highlight the logical inconsistency in the one it responded to. Basically “the KHL is weak so take Nikishin with a grain of salt, he’ll probably be a mid-range contributor. On the other hand, Demidov dominated the KHL so his star power is obvious, look for him at the top of the lineup”.

Sergachev and zhitnik I don’t consider #1 d men, might have played as there teams #1 d man, but they are not #1 d men. So markov, Zubov and gonchar , that’s 3 in a span of 40 years, yippee

I'd say Nikishin pretty easily given he's done it for like 4 years. Demidov has a single year of this level of domination, could definitely be him going forward but not sure how you don't take the guy that's the captain of a top KHL team at 21-23. Nikishin's performance is insane.

Lol... look at the post that was directly above mine that I quoted and you shall find your answers.
