Give up on the Leafs.

The players clearly don't really care. Why root for players who are out for themselves. Selfish negotiations. Lacking intensity.

They don't care. Neither should you.

this is exactly it right here

the leafs' "core 3" are lounging somewhere right now with a cold one, a smile on their faces and a summer of fun ahead

meanwhile their fans are still crying at home

this is how messed up society can be

When Michael Jordan got beat up on the Pistons for the last time they went right to the gym to build up for next season

Matthews is at the UFC fight with Beiber ripped on blow

My wife and her whole family are Habs fans... my wife and I have a bet going since 2016 that whoever's team wins the cup first the other has to cheer for that team for a year.

I really don't want to be a Habs fan for a year. Please Tampa. I'm relying on you.

On the bright side, the upcoming season is probably going to be the absolute best year to not be a Leafs fan.:dunno:

I love hockey

I love playing sports.

Modern day professional sports is about money not sports.

Its impossible for anyone claiming they're a life long die hard Leafs fan and also be cheering on Montreal in the final.

If you bleed blue and white, you can't also bleed bleu, blanc and rouge.

Leaf fans don't cheer for Canadiens success as that is not the same a Canadians success.

Its not personal that is simply life, of two original 6 rivals dating back 100 years.

Think of the century long Hatfields vs McCoys feud. Pick a side and stay true and strong. :)

The “enemy of my enemy is my friend” ... Go Tampa Bay Lightning !!!!

yup

Anyone and everyone before the Habs

Exactly, and its not even about the players involved nor the names on the back of their jerseys, its always about the crest on the front as to where true loyalties steadfastly lie.

You can be a diehard hockey fan, and cheer for whomever you like, whenever you like, as that is freedom of choice for a fan of the sport if that is what floats your boat for own enjoyment pleasure.

However any diehard fan of the Leafs, would be viewed as a "Benedict Arnold" or traitor to cross over a cheer for the opposite side, simply because they're winning and your side lost. IMO

Mats Sundin would be a perfect example of this.. A loyal Leafs captain even on a sinking ship at the end, would not waive his NTC to be traded to Montreal, where an agreed upon deal was already in place, because he said "he couldn't do that to loyal Leaf fans of his". He understood exactly what we're saying and feeling here, even though he started out with Quebec Nordiques who drafted him and he would be returning the same Province.

For a Leafs fans Montreal winning the Cup is the worst possible outcome to imagine, even if they didn't already embarrass your team on the way the Cup, as that is just simply rubbing more salt in the wound.

If the Isla fees had beat TB
Then the islanders
But having lost to TB
Montreal

I hate TB

If the NHL was about hockey or cities that would be true. But it's about money.

Rooting for Marner when he doesn't care about the Leafs or Toronto seems misguided.

Montreal has more Canadians than any other team

Montreal has more Canadians than any other team

But...Montreal isn’t Toronto.

What’s more misguided than selling another team to a fanbase you claim to be a part of?

Players might not hold up their end of the contract, but true fans hold up their part. That’s the deal. Otherwise, you just haven’t realized you’ve scrapped your part as well.

Exactly!

I have no idea how anyone in here who is not explicitly cheering against the Habs can call themselves a Leafs fan.

Do you think any actual Habs (or any other Canadian teams' fans) would ever cheer for the Leafs to win the Cup? Let alone a series?!

Holy ...

Supporting a team composed of people not supporting the team ?

Sounds like a losing plan.

I would cheer for every single NHL team before I'd ever root for Montreal.

Whiney, crybaby, bandwagon jumping losers and that's just their fanbase.
