I would think that for the right offer the Devils would part away with Hischer and he would be a ideal #2 C after Suzuki in MTL.

What do you guys think would be a fair deal?
I think we should wait to see what pick we end up with. We may end up with Wright. If we do we won't need Hischer.

Bertuzzi was an All Star.

He's still not a star.

Maybe it's just me getting caught up in wording.

Semantics I suppose.

Certainly you can tell the difference between Bertuzzi and a point per game 20yr old who is inarguably one of the best and most talented players in his age group, no? Even when he wasn't producing, Hughes was clearly on the path to stardom. Maybe not a superstar, but I can't see how you can watch him and not see a guy who will be a standout offensive creator.

Zero reason for the Devils to trade Nico right now, I don't think he should necessarily be off limits but they'd need a legit package of young NHL ready players to even consider trading him.
I can't see any team being willing to give up that kind of package for him either.

Habs may land a top C this draft or next.... no point in trading for a 50-60 point centre again when theyre rebuilding. Especially that theyre surely going to tank next season.

Yeah Caufield+Suzuki for Nico, even then he is our captain after all. Lol at him being the #2 C behind Suzuki
You got me. For a minute i thought you were serious.
We give the better player up and throw in Caufield?
Really you were just kidding? Right.

I think there will be teams looking for a shake-up. The Devils need some sort of shake-up in the next year IMO, it's not a great sign when guys like Zacha and Hischier are regressing. Could potentially see a change of scenery trade, something around Provorov for Hischier.

the devils have the youngest roster in the nhl. the guys above thirty are either not playing (bernier) or aren't very good anymore (pk, tatar). the devils should give this a little bit of time.

with a solid gap 0.8 yrs to the second youngest Ottawa. The devils is like a U-23 team playing vs Men. To win games Fitz to add experience in the roster and goalie

you can try to fast track the development. but if you then try to compete against teams, who did a proper build, you don't have to wonder, when the winning attempts are falling short.

If they trade Nico it certainly wouldn’t be to the Flyers, I don’t know why people think Nico is regressing either, he went from having a Hart winner on his wing to Tatar it’s not that hard to figure out why the points aren’t there

So instead of doing what 99% of this website does by just saying "never going to happen," I'm going to provide a scenario:

We would want, at the very least, a 1st and Caulfield. In an ideal world, Mercer is ready to take 2C duties, so we need/want a young 3C with PK abilities or a young NHL-ready RHD.

So I would be looking at 4 pieces but could be 3 depending on the value of the 1st rounder of:

  • 1st round pick
  • Caulfield
  • Young 3C and/or young RHD (depends on options available)

Hischier is the Devils captain, 23 years old and signed for another 4 years, and is one of the better 2-way centers in the league. Why the f*** are they trading him?

There are a handful of players in the league I would consider moving Hischier for, exactly 0 of them play for MTL.

It's also funny to suggest that Hischier would play as 2C behind Suzuki. They're the same age, have produced offense at nearly identical rates during their careers, and Hischier is significantly better defensively. The only reason he's 2C in New Jersey is because we have a point per game center in Jack Hughes.

Isn't he signed for an additional five years?

Coming from Montreal, these trade would be pretty pointless, maybe only to save 600k on the cap.

IMO both player are of the same tier, but I rather keep the home grown player who is used to the pressure and showed he can perform in this environment. Suzuki is probably liked in the room too so I doubt it would be good for the room morale which might already be at the lowest as it is.

Suzuki will probably be Montreal's next captain, so Hischier already being a captain is a non-factor in this trade.
