Player Discussion Nick Suzuki Game Winning Goals Edition

Suzuki has been the Habs best forward for what, three years straight, and anyone suggesting otherwise is just farming clicks or lying to themselves because they had an angle before.

Lets stop this, its not even close. Caufield has never (or at least never more than 20ish games) outproduced Suzuki and Suzuki is one of the best defensive center in this league. Theres just no legs to stand on here.

I bet Nick just put his shlong on Kent Hughes desk and it was enough , no words we're needed to be exchanged
He's Japanese and, according to stereotypes floating out there, I doubt this is plausible, but who's to say, for sure?

Suzuki routinely out produces Caufield and is infinitely better everywhere else. Anyone arguing otherwise is stubbornly clinging to old views that have long been proven false.

First half Suzuki outproduced Caufield again this year while being better all over the ice. It’s nothing against Caufield. He’s been very good, but Nick is a star. These same posters have had an axe to grind against Suzuki for years. They even claimed Dach would overtake him as the number 1 center.

Their judgement on this topic cannot be trusted. Nick finally gets a bit of help and he’s on the verge of a 90 point season or close. It was evident a couple of years ago that he had 90 point upside. Doing it with no 2nd line. Give this team a 2nd line and he’s breaking 100.

Suzuki has outproduced everyone since the day he's been here. Nobody will dispute this.

That doesn't mean there weren't windows where he wasn't our best player.

I don't have an axe to grind against anyone. I do think that posters asserted he was a number one long before he was one and for some, any kind of criticism or suggestion that he's being outperformed is taken as some kind of personal attack.

But yours can?

You just said that it was beyond debate that a guy who was pacing for 46 goals and point per game could be better. You also said that I was the sole person who'd made the argument.

Wake up man.

So it's just the 'help'? You're not giving enough credit to Nick Suzuki.

Yes, I really wonder what the angle is. Bergevin?

I'm pretty sure you said Caufield was Mike Hoffman and we should dump him.

Suzuki's not a one man show. Hasn't been for some time. He's doing the same thing he did last year... leveling up at the end of the season. The rosters were the same in both cases, Suzuki is simply playing better. Credit the player.

Can you find actual evidence of Cole outproducing Nick this year? Can you make the argument that Cole was a better defensive player than Nick ?

It just seems like an incredible uphill battle.

Caufield is a better player than Hoffman, but Hoffman was a much better PP triggerman in his prime. Hoffmans prime from 15 to 19 is awfully similar to Caufield so far.

He put a poll a few years ago and expected CC to come out ahead. NZ, blew him away in it and he’s been stubbornly arguing against Nick ever since. He’ll never admit it, but no offense to Cole, who was super hot in October with 10 Goals in 11 games, but that is the only stretch where you could argue he was better than Nick. He only had 1 assist.

Even with Cole on a heater with 10 goals in 11 games to start the year he was still being out produced by Suzuki who had 13 points over the same stretch. Ignoring the defensive differences here is nonsensical. There is no contest. Caufield at his very best is still no Nick Suzuki.

But Suzuki had 13 points in that span 🤔. How can you even argue that?

Also Cole was shooting 32%. Thats crazy, insane luck.

Nick getting recognition.

I'll be crazy a little bit here. But assuming he keeps up his post-4 nation pace and the Habs get in the POs, should he get Hart considerations?

It would give him around 90 points, he would finish between 7 and 12 in scoring.

NHL seems to automatically give the Hart to league leaders in stats, wether it's skater or goalie.

But Suzuki carrying his team into the playoffs is the definition of the award. Let's say you take Draisaitl, Goocherov or Makar/MacKinnon away from their teams...they still have a reasonable shot of making the playoffs.

Take Suzuki away from the habs and we are in Matthew Shaefer range easily.

Suzuki is able to set the pace of a game and force opponents to match him. He does whatever it takes to win and doesn't need to rely on being the best scorer on the ice. At the end of the day, he just has to tilt the ice enough to prevent the other side from playing their game. To me this is what makes him a playoff style player. Regular season totals aren't his focus

I mean I wouldnt fault the Makar or Draisaitl nominations, I think theyre the two best players in the world right now and, especially for Edmontom, their roster is close to bottom-tier without those, but I'd have a hard time with anyone else over Suzuki other than these.

I think he’d be worthy, but it would be a bit unprecedented based on previous nominees. Between, him, Cole and Hutson the Habs are entertaining to watch again. That makes him my mvp. Lolol. The bar is low for me.
