Surely you can see yourself that Caufield, Slaf, Laine ranks at or near the bottom of this list ? Its not an insult, it's just a fact. He need better wingers and Suzuki hasn't had the support other top Cs have had. From what I can see, I would trade our wingers with 19 other teams in the NHL for tomorrows game, how is that good ? It means our winger depth is bottom third in the NHL.
You'd have traded Caufield for a bag of pucks last year and said so. I'm sorry bud but you don't know what you're talking about here. He's been great for us. Yes, he's been disapointing in his last half a dozen or so games but he's been terrific.

And there's NO way I'd deal these guys off. Slaf is only 21 and CC isn't even at his prime yet. And again, we have the best PP guy in the league and Hutson. He's got plenty to work with. Stop with this nonsense.

A bug of pucks ? No. Maybe two. I'm mostly talking about making the roster better though, again, I don't fall in love with players.

You make the roster better by signing good young talent to long reasonable contracts. We have the current 12th highest goal scorer in the league signed to a long 7.5 mil contract. Great deal and it’ll be the same with Slaf.

I'm still impressed about the sitdown he had with Hughes. I'm not sure Gorton would have managed that, MB and Gauthier even less so. But having a GM making Suzuki take responsibility of what he wants and putting him to the challenge in a healthy way is strong and astute leadership by management. Suzuki's as driven as I've ever seen him. He currently reminds me of the guy that carried the Storm during the memorial cup run. He's just legendary and clutch when he gets going.

Yes, which is what I alluded to in the past few posts, make the roster better. The ideal scenario is adding someone better than the wingers we currently have because they are not as good as we say they are, no matter how many times we flaunt the "top goalscorer" moniker.

Nah I don't think Slaf/CC/Demidov/Laine is a weak top 6 winger core. We just need a 2C and a good one, not another project.

The ideal scenario is to stick with what we have on the wings. I'm not sure how you don't see this. All we need is a 2C. The wingers are really good, especially with Demidov coming.

What do you mean about Newhook ? I never said he was a better player than Caufield ? At least not since they got drafted and even then it was mostly about size rather than pure talent.

Also I never said he wouldn't be able to do any of those things, I think, I say a lot of shit though. I mostly think positively of Cole but there's a few things that annoy me, and thats why I think he's too far up the depth chart.

I'm not sure why there's such resistance when I say that Cole should be a #2 or #3 winger on a good team. He's the definition of the Matheson conundrum people have been talking about, shove him down and you'll love him even more.

Yeah, the PP was insane. Funny enough, I think we only finished with 26% ? It was crazy back then though. Kovy-Markov was an insane combo.
You were super high on Newhook and brought it up frequently that you’d rather Newhook.

Saying you want Caufield to be our 2 or 3 winger is a far cry from your general evaluation of Caufield’s play. Besides he easily could be our 3 in a couple years. Hell maybe even 4 if Laine can get back to where he was.

Caufield can still be plenty better too believe it or not. I mean he was drafted 2 years before Suzuki and it’s not like Suzuki’s stopped getting better 2 years ago. Look at Caufield’s point totals compared to Suzuki’s from 2 years ago and they’re pretty damn close so I don’t really get what the issue is here and why we can’t ‘fall in love with him’.

Yeah it tends to get lost in all the asset management analysis but a huge aspect of the GM job is managing the personalities involved. As much as we tend to think it's easy when you have a leader/winner like Suzuki it's really not.

You've obviously never been in a managerial position with a real leader, an A player.

When and A player says "I can do this", you give them the tools they ask for and look at them go.

B and C players, yeah that's complicated.

So you think it was easy to manage Suzuki last year when we sold Monahan? As the OP mentioned it would've been easy to screw up this TDL. Hughes seems to have a very good relationship with the players, and relationships are never easy and just a case of getting out of the way.

I honestly believe that this alleged sit down is being romanticized and blown out of proportion, like it was some grand entrance into the GM's office with an ultimatum from Suzuki.

Gimme a break.

It probably went down, "Kent, the guys would like a chance to stick around and do their best to make the playoffs together. They think they can get something done..."

"Fine, you guys win games before the deadline and I won't trade the veterans."

"Thanks, I'll let the guys know..."

This guy wants some playoff. He's been as good as any center iv seen in a montreal canadiens jersey since a long time. He's calm confident and exactly who I wants leading the way.

2 more for PPG...

It's like Ovy's record chase. You know it will happen but you just don't what game it will be.

It will be a historic day for the team. First time in 17 years, and 2nd time in 30 years.
