What are the chances Robertson gets called up before the postseason? He could do a Kapanen and be instrumental in the playoffs.

Same question for Liljegren and Sandin but I can’t find their threads

I think any chance of Robertson playing for the Leafs this season is done, the moments passed. Leafs are probably glad he's able to play in the AHL this season instead of the OHL so he can properly focus on development and is around coaches and training staff dedicated to that purpose. Plus with the Leafs looking at forward help via trade and their attempted rehab at Galchenyuk it seems they've settled on other options to shore up the forward lines. Even if an injury occurs guys like Petan, Barabanov, and Agostino seem to be ahead of him on the depth charts.

It's not out of the realm of possibility, I just doubt it happens and I don't want the circumstances that would see it happen arising.

To give you a sense of how insane Robertson's D+1 season was:

Only 3 other under 19 year old players in the last 38 years have scored at his goals/game level in all of junior hockey.

Sakic, Lindros and Lemieux.

That's reason enough to get hyped no?

weren't all 3 of those guys plus a bunch more guys in the NHL in there D-1 and were elite scorers at all ages, Robertson had one elite year in junior... He seems like a high end prospect, I have only seen him play a few games, I will give you a more informed opinion after this season

PS: notice the bold above

Just wanted to compare some more recent players who were known for some offense numbers in the minors and how different they could be. That was my point.
I remember a lot of people being really high on Peter White, Pavel Brendl, etc... these type of guys don't always pan out. We don't even know if he'll surpass Josh Leivo as an NHL player.
He will surpass Leivo. I’ll guarantee that. Well no I won’t but I’m pretty sure he will ha. I like Leivo

The main thing to consider with Robertson is(i think). Does the management want him to slide another year. Who knows but I’m getting a sneaky suspicion they do and will as long as the team is successful winning games and injuries remain manageable.

It is only 7 games to lose the slide this year, not 10 games. So that leads me to think we aren’t going to see much of Robertson playing Leafs games this year. Playoffs and regular season count. They will sprinkle him in games here and there. He would have to put one spectacular show on in any games he gets to force them to lose a year I’m thinking

He’s definitely available, Dubas already indicated that any prospect is fair game. Fans here are really high on him so the reaction will probably be cold and unrealistic for the most part.
Leafs are truly in win now mode so unfortunately guys like Robertson or Sandin might need to go in order to not miss our window.

There's not a lot that Dallas has to offer in a Robertson all-in deal though.

I think the sliding contract is a big factor. They need that ELC to stretch out and cover as much of those Tavares @ $11 million years as possible.

Robertson scored the game winner for the Marlies last night. The big shot off the wing and quick release. No chemistry in his game yet with the Marlies obviously. Shot beats goalies from any angle already. He’s a good scoring winger in the 2-3 years range. I mean good scoring winger.
The Ohl returning should not be able to force him out of development process at a higher level as a exception this year only minimum.

Ironic how the view on Rob's has changed in a year. Last year he was a can't miss prospect that should be penciled on the top 6. Now we need give him more time to get stronger and acclimated to pro hockey life. Goes to show a lot can happen in a year. Likewise a prospect can sprout out from nowhere that wasn't even on the radar to become a player. This is life!

He was injured and then conditioning and then injured and now back. He might have been in the Leafs lineup. I don’t mind him in the Ahl one little bit.
He’s about point per game there so not shabby. 10 points in 11 games i believe after the goal last night. I was having a discussion with some posters that getting the slide on his ELC isn’t a bad approach moving forward. Ahl is never a bad approach either. So all’s good really.
I think he could play Nhl right now. I don’t mind him in the Ahl however. I haven’t changed my thoughts on him personally. I was never against Ahl as soon as the opportunity appeared. It’s likely great for him

Isn't he like 10 points in last 11 games?

Kids knocking on the door pretty loudly at this point....
Points are nice, but his play hasn't been great with the Marlies. He just came back from an injury too so probably still some time away from a call up.

Robertson given another 5 or 10 games will be just fine. Kids a stud. If he doesn't play on the Leafs this season he will next season. They'll need him with the cap maneuvering going on. Not just for that reason though... mostly because he is already pretty damn good and I think he'll get better. I hope he still gets some games in this season too. You never know... may need him come playoffs.

Im so Neutral on him
I have very little expectations for him
Yes he played really well in the OHL
But a lot of players do and have a hard time transitioning their game to the next level

with that statement said He’s been playing very well in the AHL , If he keeps producing at the pace he has I think we found one heck of a player . 10 games in I’m happy as you can be and it’s development for a 19-year-old player picked 53 OA , at a ppg pace on one of the highest levels of hockey . If you can prove yourself in the AHL at such a young age it’s really exciting for the next step

The Marlies have only played 19 games because COVID, and Nick has only played 11 of them because injury. Still, 10 points, +7 in 11 games as a 19 year old AHLer is really good.

I don’t think he’s quite NHL ready, still needs to get stronger and better at angling off and absorbing hits. He gets manhandled too easily at the moment, but that’ll change - just look at the way similar players like DeBrincat, Marchand, Gallagher, etc. have learned to engage physically over time.

I do think he’s very close to NHL ready - which is rare for a 19 year old 2nd round pick! IMO his reasonable upside is roughly a DeBrincat level player, hard worker and high end scorer. His reasonable downside is a decent middle 6 winger. He’s an excellent prospect, IMO it’s between him and Sandin for our top prospect, both ahead of Amirov and Liljegren.

Robertson's shot mechanics are quite impressive. He's like a Mini Mattthews out there when you see him whip a puck and it's hard to tell what happened even in slow motion.

When you have Tavares’ cap hit you are going to need your prospects to play.
If they trade any of Robertson, Sandin, or Liljegren it means filling out the lineup with more minimum salary types.
I wouldn’t do it except for a goalie if Campbell isn’t going to be able to stay healthy.

Who cares. He won’t be a Leaf longer than the trade deadline.

Dubes is going to land something nice for him + a 1st.
His performance at each level puts him in groups that are full of NHL first line players and better. Like I'm sure Dubas would deal him for the right player, I just can't see that being a rental.

For context, the last few players to score goals at the same rate as his D+1: Sakic, Lindros, Lemieux

The only 19 year olds to go ppg or better in the cap era AHL: Rantanen, Nylander
(Assuming that he finishes the season above ppg, he's 1 pt below that rate)

Of course it's no guarantee, but if we traded him for a rental and he turned into a Marchand level player, no one could say the indicators weren't there

I would love to see him get in some games to give Thornton a rest. The locker room is one thing, but there’s almost no question in my mind that he would be making a much bigger impact on the ice than Joe.
