paragraphs are your friendif not for the OHL starting up, I would keep Nick with the Marlies. It is exactly the level he is at. And quite frankly the AHL is a bit more physical, which plays harder into his deficiencies. He loses puck possession often due to the physical nature of the AHL. His skill level is 100% NHL ready, and maybe if he were to come up, depending on who he is lined up with could end up getting more space. But when you look at the root of his deficiencies it is 100% something that will play a factor in the show at the moment. Cycles tend to die on his tape because he is either losing 1 on 1 battles or getting pushed off the puck. Rather easily might I add. The point totals are great, but as some previous posters have said it is a tad fraudulent. #1 a handful of his assists were fluky secondary assists. #2 point totals never tell a true story. I am as high on Nick as anyone on this board, trust me. But he will struggle at the NHL level right now IMO. He will get points just because of his skill, but he will not come into the leafs right away and have the impact that Mitch/Willy/Auston had. I still think he is better off with the leafs vs the petes when the season fires up. He doesn't need to work on his skill and shot, which is what he would be doing in the O. He needs to get stronger, and learn how to compete against men. Which he can do in practice and limited games. I have no problem burning his 1st year ELC to get that development from him. And I certainly wouldn't just Healthy him every game. I'd give him probably 10-15 games depending on when he gets called up. Of course i could be completely wrong, and Nick could absolutely dominate at the NHL level right away, but from what I have seen so far I believe it will take a little time before he becomes that dominating player i think he projects to be
Ya, I will say this. Positionally I have zero issues with him. He is where he needs to be, he is in the right supporting areas defensively and has an active stick to close out lanes. All very good characteristics. He thinks the game at a high level IMO. It really comes down to strength. Which is totally understandable, he is only 19. At the end of the day, if you were to ask me if he fully ready, I would say no. But he would be no less effective than Jimmy Vesey IMO. My only concern is that I do not want his confidence to be hindered by not producing at the NHL level. Because I am not 100% certain it will come right away if he is playing bottom 6. He is highly effective on the PP, and would play him on the RW wall for the 1T, it will at least give him some pts to make him feel good about himself. At the end of the day, the boys have a very healthy lead in the standings, and have afforded themselves the luxury to experiment a bit. I would play Nick like crazy until he no longer can play in the A, and then call him up and reward him. After all, ready or not, this kid has earned an opportunity. I think the guys in the room are pulling for him too. You can see that after he went to the bench when he scored in the blue/white. A lot of his team mates were giving him extra love for a meaningless goal in a meaningless gameI’m going to keep a close eye on his rookie group who are basically all the same age. The Marlies are not a very good team yet. The quality of linemates he plays with are not great.
His defensive play is on point. Thats the most important development curve we likely want to see.
Writing about the Leafs beats working lolparagraphs are your friend![]()
Im hoping to see him on our big club and hoping he can make a difference and be part of our Leafs for many years .In comparison,
2019 5th overall pick: Alex Turcotte has 0 goals and 0 assists in 5 AHL Games this season.
Robertson is at near a PPG, with 6 points in 7 games so far in the AHL. After coming from a gruesome knee-injury.
I am not sure he has the same bite to his game as Marchy. Just don't see the ability to agitate as much as Marchand. Someone here said Cam Atkinson. I think that is the best Comp in the NHL. Persistent, undersized, great shot, reads the play very well, pure goal scorerHe's a keeper.
I've been very impressed with his drive in puck battles. Dare I say he has a lot of similarities in how he plays, minus the personality characeristics, to... Brad Marchand?
I think the plan is to leave him in the A.Per the comments in the Marlies thread, his puck management has been a bit questionable the last couple of games with some turnovers. Which is to be expected with a kid coming out of junior.
I'd be excited to see him get called up, but a stronger part of me wants to leverage this situation where he can develop in the AHL a little to iron out some kinks in his game before getting called up with the big boys.
The Leafs are performing well and are sorting out the depth they have already. And if we're expecting a 19 year old rookie to help fix Tavares and Nylander's line, I think we have bigger problems (not to mention the pressure). I'd like to slow our roll a bit here and ensure he's developed properly, especially because they have the chance to have him in the AHL now and not the O.
I hope Nylander is traded in the next 2 years, regardless.I see Nylander traded regardless in the next year or two. Just my thoughts.
Do you think Dubas is a fabulist?I hope Nylander is traded in the next 2 years, regardless.
Just my hopes.
FIFY (even the grammar)
Don't know the man.Do you think Dubas is a fabulist?
Its just that he has stated Nylander isn't going anywhere. So we have to believe him. Why hope for the impossible?Don't know the man.

You'd have to ask the great one11Its just that he has stated Nylander isn't going anywhere. So we have to believe him. Why hope for the impossible?
I'm frustrated on behalf of Robertson. He skips the WJC to work out and prepare to make the Leafs and as soon as he gets a shot to do so he's knocked out for weeks with an unfortunate injury. Then when he's healthy again that opportunity to play on the Leafs this season is never given back, as the organization is content to let him play for the Marlies. Through no fault of his own and piss poor luck he's lost the chance to make an impact on the big club.
