I don't see how this has anything to do with his hype. For the most part, he has lived up to the hype with his play and work ethic. He just needs to stay healthy.

The too much hype is just expected here.

No I wonder if physically he just isn't ready, ... how many comments about him always being on his butt because of any little contact.
He was not good in preseason.
If he isn't capable of dealing with the physical play, giving him more time against boys might have made more sense.

Let's hope for a speedy recovery.

I am reminded of the dirty Dotchin hit on F Gauthier just when it seemed he was turning a corner in his development. Hope Robertson comes back strong, but a very leafy-start to the season with Amirov wrist, Mikheyev wrist, Robertson leg, Mrazek groin.

You forgot Matthews missing 3 games with an injury that should have been dealt with months ago

How many Marlies can they send up and down without requiring waivers? He was one.

I place a lot of the blame on some fans here.

You can only put so much air in a container before it blows ... way to much pumping of his tires.

He's still a kid, needs time. Wonder if he should have gone back for overage year?

Ulf, I think I agree with where you’re coming from but I think the blame goes to the organization. Remember how they just hyped up this kid in the Play In Bubble and then realized he had no business being in the NHL after his big junior year. The pandemic and other injuries have hurt his development as well.

The good news is he’s just a kid still and we can still afford to be patient with him. The question is does he have what a guy like DeBrincat has and can be a small scorer in the NHL or is the mix wrong and he doesn’t have the right ingredients to be an impact player? I’ll be honest, when I see his game it’s all effort but almost like the wrong kind. Like he labours so hard every foot out there in a bad way. Those questions will be answered in time.

Just devastating news for the kid. Hope he recovers great and takes his time. Looked like a very bad injury can't imagine pain he's going through. Such a tough kid.

That's rough. That's a long time out, though I guess it could be worse. Hopefully everything heals okay.

f***. This really sucks. I have him up there pretty high for a Leaf prospect but he is starting to seem injury prone and this will most likely set him back a bit.

In saying that I wish him the best and hope he makes as quick as possible recovery. The one good thing... if there is one... is it happened so early in the season he can still come back in the second half and go on a tear.

Just like any time a guy is injured it gives other guys opportunities.

I'd rather try to package this kid to get an upgrade in the forward group at this point while his stock is still relatively high. I have a bad feeling about him and don't think he's going to be an NHLer.
Yeah peak time to trade someone is right after they snap there leg. Or we maybe don't write off a kids potential because of a fluke injury and let him recover and see how his development goes.

He is a small player who thinks and plays much bigger than he is. That is a problem if he is not able to stay injury free. Almost every single injury is from him falling awkwardly and twisting his legs beneath him. He either has to realize he is small and play more like a Marner or a Tyler Ennis to survive in the NHL or he will always be injured.

I think he believes that success is just mostly effort and if you try really hard you will succeed even if you are trying hard in the wrong way.

He reminds of David Clarkson when it comes to balance on his skates. We had drinking games based around every time Clarkson would fall down....I blacked out too many times to remember the details....

I'd send him back to junior even though he's an OA and good enough for the AHL. He needs to play hockey at this point and he's at less risk of re-injury down their.

Just curious. Should Crosby's and Kucherov's injuries been taking care of earlier, or is this only apply to the Leafs?

Seems in sports, athletes do everything they can to rehab an injury and surgery is the last resort.

Same advice I received from my surgeon.

I agree he needs to learn to use his size better. With his small stature and big shot you kind of want him to be a lot more like Cole Caufield getting lost in the mix and then unleashing a shot when a guy finds him than pinballing on every play with almost an Auston Matthews mentality. Think that’s what Wickenheiser was talking about when she said he needed to dial it back.

I have no idea why size has any say into someone's injuries. It's completely irrelevant.

This is a completely accidental injury that could have happened to the toughest, meanest and strongest hockey player alive. Fell awkwardly on his leg and got injured... Sheesh. Must be because he's short.

And he didn't lose a leg here. He'll recover. Just because you get muscle atrophy drinking beer in your basement watching hockey, doesn't seem like an athlete will get muscle atrophy from rehabbing for a couple months... Plenty of hockey players have injured worse than that and came back like nothing happened. It's gonna be ok.

You get a trophy for drinking beer and watching hockey?
