Nick Ritchie in the first 13 games: 14 SOG.

Nick Ritchie against Philly: 7 SOG.

Looks like he took that shooting training to heart. If I am Keefe, I am pulling him aside and telling him to keep that up, and things will start falling in line for him. Maybe give him another game in the top 6 too.
When you show up with a new team, you might also not want to come off as selfish.

End of the day still one of the best in the league.

Not in the playoffs unfortunately.

:laugh::laugh:

I thought he stood out yesterday. Good for him (and us if he can turn it around).

Yep, last night was the first time I noticed him doing anything at all. I haven't been watching as closely this season as in past years but still, he's been quiet. But last night, wowzer! I gues the people who said he'd make us forget all about Hyman knew what they were talking about after all. ;)

It also seems a bit strange to talk about how we're "still" one of the best in the league when we're tied for 15th overall.

I think people are projecting considering the season is still in its early days. I don’t see certain teams keeping up their current pace and I expect others to pick it up.

I think we’ll be toward the top come seasons end. Play offs is a different question…

We're 14 games into an 82 game season.

Is Colorado no longer a top team? NYI?

Are Minny, Columbus, SJ and Anaheim now top teams?

My best guess is that we'll finish in the 6-10 range overall like usual. I'm not taking it for granted though, it's not far fetched at all to think that several teams might pass us this season. And even if we stay in the 6-10 range, is a team in that range that has never won a playoff series really "one of the best"? Best is a relative term so I suppose everyone decides for themselves if it's an appropriate term to describe our team, it's a little early for me though.

you must be replying to someone I can't see.

but it's funny the consensus around here for some seems to be that this year is showing that the Leafs aren't good .....

....when the Leafs are playing at a 100pt pace, with top-5 underlying performance numbers, 14 games into a season........even with a team-wide offensive outage that has all but 4 or 5 players producing well below expectations.

It comes down to can he string a good game into multiple games

I think he may have benefited from playing in that division last year and in Boston's system,
but toronto plays quicker through the neutral zone and I've seen him a few times trying his absolute hardest to get that 240 ib frame moving as he is quite far behind

Nick Ritchie (@ $2.5 mil) was brought in to replace Zach Hyman (@ $2.25 mil) out at his old price point, and play in the top likely beside Matthews were he started the year.

However all 4 of those new additions at forward above (including Ritchie) for $6.2 mil Cap produce at the same rate as 1 X Zach Hyman .. 11 games 7 goals 3 assists 10 points for (@ $5.5 mil) new price point, at this point in time.

Leafs GM essentially believed in quantity of new additions to replace quality to address Leafs supporting cast and provide better secondary scoring around the core 4, however they're struggling just to replace Hyman. He could just re-signed Hyman and added Bunting @$ 950k for about the same cap as the new 4 combined and left unqualified RFAs Ritchie, Kampf and Kase for someone else .

Dubas was likely betting on Ritchie to meet and exceed his last year #'s of 56 games 15 goals 11 assists 26 points [= 82 games 22 goals 16 assists 38 points] when playing on a line with 2 of his core 4 forwards at any time to prop up his stats. Now he is already a 4th line hoping Spezza and Simmonds elevate him statistically.

The Elephant in the room is that when we signed Nylander, AM, Marner and to a lesser extent the brain trust believed we would be closer to a 80-95 million dollar cap. No other team has been screwed over by the cap than the TML. Does Dubas and all deserve the criticism of the values of the contracts handed out? Yes but the values are the sole reason for the crunch.

That being said if AM was under 11, Marner 9.5-10 and Nylander 6.5 then we would have likely been able to sign a player like Hyman barring he was will to take under 5.

And you love every second of that. Odd. You cheer for it.

I really don't. I've been living and dying with this franchise for over 50 years. I pump my first when they score, and I curse when they are scored on.

Because I don't wave the pom poms for every single decision that management makes or because I poke fun at those who insist this is a fantastic team despite their lack of any real success, doesn't equate to hoping they lose.

Quite the opposite in fact.

It's not a matter of waiving pom poms. Anyone that ties their allegiance to a team to a management team is a fool.

You openly post negativity on this board on a daily basis yet pretend to be a fan of the team. It's confusing. When I watch a TV show and I don't like it, I stop watching. I don't go to the shows message board and create a toxic environment because my feelings are hurt.

Plenty of positive posts when good things happen, check out any of GDT's.

I liked and responded positively to both your sarcastic "mentions" on last week's wins. (I noticed you, not surprisingly, missed doing so after the LA game.)

Anyway, if the content of my posts bothers you, feel free to hit the ignore button. I promise it won't bother me.
