Player Discussion: Nick Perbix

14mins a night, 5 games 3 assists, +3 for for 1.1M, trade him we there are obviously much better options for the price according to half of you  Yeah he doesn't hit but he's a great at skating the puck out and makes good reads, pair him with Moser on in his natural position and we have a strong complimentary pairing right there.

Perbix was fine in his role last year for his price and far exceeding his value this year, Raddysh who's primary role is offense and plays on the top PP unit has 1 point 5 games while bleeding goals against.

Half of us? He was "fine" last year when he had a noticeable drop off from his prior year?

I wasn't in a hurry to trade him off because we need serviceable guys on affordable contracts. But it was hardly unreasonable to think the team should move on from him. I'm hoping he gets back to his rookie season level, but it's early to be crowing (not that it's ever good form) when he hasn't even been able to stay in the lineup consistently to this point.

So how does having a drop off from a great rookie year mean he was terrible like you were insinuating? By all metrics he was more than "fine" unless you think you can find an upgrade for a similar price it's absolutely unreasonable. For all the guys who wanted him gone I'd love to hear your ideas for replacements for the same price.

How is 24 ES points and +8 from a 3rd pairing defenseman who plays 15mins a night supposed to be terrible? You have selective memory, he had a rough start last year as did the rest of the team but finished strong as his numbers suggest.

I don't think any reasonable person would conclude I was saying he was "terrible". If you have to contort the meaning of what you're replying to, maybe don't bother.

Anyone reading this please reply who needed "metrics" to see Perbix had a sophomore slump or noticeable drop off compared to his rookie season.

I have been rooting for Perbix for quite some time, but it has become apparent that he is about all he will ever be.

I am underwhelmed by him. While waiting for him to 'come around' when he was younger, in both the AHL and NHL, many things about his game could be overlooked because "he can get better".

But now, at age 26, when he should be stable in his performance, I find he still folds a bit too much under pressure, is prone to making blind or nonchalant passes out of his zone

He only played 14 AHL games and is only in his 3rd year.... lol he has less than 200 professional games under his belt but sure I too am underwhelmed by a 6th round pick playing 15-20mins a night producing 20-30 ES points a year.

Perbix has always been a bit of an analytical darling but this is wild. He shares a lot of the problems I had with Sergachev, very solid in looser games but get's exposed as a turnover machine in those tight-checking games.

Regardless whatever team signs him based on his underlying numbers is in for a bit of a rude awakening.

Perbix's only issue is when he makes a mistake it's usually a memorable one, he's a fine depth defenseman especially for the price. His biggest issue is his partner is Lilliberg, his numbers away from him are significantly better.

Always find it funny when people who just blab nonsense in GTD's get a wake up call when they see the numbers. Unless you're clueless about defenseman, Perbix is actually one of the better third pairing guys in the league, he nets you 20~ ESP and is a plus player every year.

Big agree. He doesn’t deserve most of the shitposting he gets here. He’s been particularly good in the last dozen or so games- better than Moser.

Yeah have seen much worse than Perbix but still think we can do better.

If you do any better that "better" will soon ask for a raise, more cap space that we can't afford, so maybe Perbix is fine enough where he is to finish the era and without hindsight or regret we ended up with something worse for trying to chase better.

Of course you can upgrade Perbix, if you're willing to pay 2-3M for a 3RD, like I said for his price he's good, there's no objective argument to say he's a net negative all things considered. Forward depth, 3LD and a backup and bigger things to worry about, not really concerned with 3RD at the moment, we have Perbix and Raddysh now and Crozier inching up, spending money on that position now is stupid.
