I think if a team likes a player and knows he can play in their top 4 they will offer something adequate. He is certainly not a cap dump by any means, the Islanders should be able to recoup a few picks for him.

What about this for a basis of a deal?

To Winnipeg: Leddy, Strome

To Chicago: 21, 33, 64

To Ottawa: 10

To NYI: 55
Where are the Islanders getting Strome from? 2016?

No thanks from this Jets fan.
I’d rather spend cap in areas of need like a 2C or a top 4 RHD.
LD isn’t a need except for a cheap bottom pairing vet.

1. Leddy probably wouldn't return Roslivic and a 2nd. As mentioned before, one or the other would suffice. Isles would prefer the draft pick since they want to clear salary but at some point beggars can't be choosers. I think people are underselling Leddy here. He's one of the quicker skaters in the league and has changed his game a bit. That being said, I could see the Isles retaining a mill a season if the return doesn't include salary. If teams want to go long-term and for higher aav they can go the UFA route. There's not that much there though.

2. Boychuk's salary is nothing the next two year but (also as mentioned before) there's not as many teams needing cap hits to reach the floor. Couple that with the NTC of 8 teams and it becomes harder to trade him.

3. Still think the Isles are stuck with Hickey and Ladd so they're both going to be buried to save 2M a season.

4. I do see Leddy being traded and if a sweetener is involved it's probably Bellows (which I would hate to see). Isles have Lee and Beauvillier at LW 1-2 and Bellows isn't exactly a two-way player and he wasn't Lou or Trotz's pick. Wouldn't like it but I could see it.

5. Two-three year bridge to Barzal, Five year (or longer) to Pulock and a short deal to Toews seems the most realistic way to go.

Lou will be creative, regardless. Robidas Island anyone?

I don't see a team offer-sheeting Barzal but if they do, Toews would get shipped out for prospects and Green could take a one-year deal.

I don't think we will have a problem like Dubas had last year where he was basically forced to trade a 1st rounder. We'll see but I am not concerned at all.

l.

I hope Lou does not revisit that rumored Parise/Ladd+ sweeteners trade. I would rather bury Ladd in the AHL, hope he grows weary enough of raiding the buses to go on LTIR, then take on Parise's longer deal.
I could see Barzal taking a bridge deal.

I don't know how they could make that work but I could see it happening. Didn't Parise start looking for houses on LI? If he did, I'm sure Lou has a gentleman's agreement with him that he'll try and do it over the "summer".

I get the idea behind it, win-now team with a desperate need for PP punch but I can't see it happening at all.

No thanks from Winnipeg. Nothing coming back is worth giving up 10OA for.

Roslovic has to be one of the most overhyped prospects on these boards.

so people really don't know about Boychuk and Leddy. Both are still good middle pairing d-men. Boychuk carries an injury risk but brings a lot of grit, a bomb of a shot, and is still solid defensively. Leddy can still skate and would carry value to a team that needs a puck mover. Just because Pulock and Pelech took huge strides forward and took over as the #1 pairing doesn't mean that they are terrible.

If we didn't have a cap issue, we would have no problem keeping them.

Strome is a 23 year old 6'3 centermen that has scored at a 63 point pace the last two seasons. Plus Leddy for 10th, thats pretty good value.
That may be true, but his skating and defense isn't great and he'll be looking for a decent raise. Leddy is nice, but can be had for less. The two of then together don't have the value to make Winnipeg part with 10OA.

Not so sure I want to move Leddy. He’s playing really well in the playoffs. Still one of the best skaters in the league and has been good in his own end of the ice.

As much as i dont blame you. But you also need to resign Barzel, Toews and Pulock. Leddys contract is one of the most tradeale. But that is my opinion

Crazy that Isles fans are willing to receive such a small package for a top pairing D.

Leddy is no longer a top pairing D but he is still a good skater. And the main reason why they have to move Leddy is cap space. They only have $8M to sign Barzal, Pulock, and Toews.

Who you going to move then to clear cap space? $8M to sign Barzal, Pulock, and Toews is not enough space. You can bridge Pulock to McAvoy contract ($4.9M ish) and Barzal is probably going to get a Aho contract ($8.5M +/-). Towes can be bridged as well. Probably need $15M in cap space. Even Leddy might not be enough space to move out.

Leddy and probably another $3M ish contract needs to be cleared out. Probably takes $15M to sign your 3 RFA's. From the outside looking in, I agree... Leddy is the most probable gut to move and get some form of futures back

They could LTR Ladd. Maybe they move Boychuck and put a pick or prospect so someone takes his salary. Nhl salary going to have to go down because of the pandemic as many teams lost quite a bit of money.

Ladd has to have an injury in order to do that. You can't create this injury and put him on LTIR where you force that on him. That is risky and you could be charged with insurance fraud. Is Ladd hurt right now? I don't believe so

Boychuck has a NTC where he list 8 teams he can be traded to. Nobody is giving value and will want more than what the Leafs had to pay to unload Marleau. Good luck with that one

NHL salary is going down for some players but not Barzal and Pulock. You might be able to bridge both but not so sure Barzal is going to like that. Barzal likely gets a Aho type contract and Pulock likely gets a McAvoy contract. Toews can be signed cheaper yes. I repeat, you need about $15M to get all 3 signed and you got $8M. Moving Leddy might not be enough

Not really sure what is up with Ladd. His back is shot so would not be surprised if he retires. Maybe they have to move Leddy will see it’s not something I want to do. Many teams will be facing salary cap crunch I’m confident Lou will figure it out.

Islander put Hickey in the Ahl to save cap space they could do the same with someone like Komarov. Not sure how that works but teams have been doing this for a while.

Agreed. And the Jets helped 2 teams out of their cap problems and not only did those teams come out ahead, the Jets gave up the 10th overall pick.

They need to move a big contract in the offseason and Leddy is the obvious choice, especially with a strong pipeline of defensive prospects.

I suppose they could surprise everyone and trade either Bailey or Eberle but I don't imagine there's much of a market for either of them especially with cap issues and the expansion draft looming.
They can lose $1M per player off their cap if they stash them in the AHL (e.g Hickey, Ladd, Komarov, Clutterbuck).
As for Ladd, he has been banged up and don't count out LTIR even with no reported acute injury.

Say what you want about Lou, but I trust him to make some deals and get the RFAs signed.
