Player Discussion Nick Jensen (D)

Lowkey our best defenseman this season. Most consistent at least.

We need to find a Jensen for Sanderson, our D would be set.

This guy is a lot more than I thought he’d be. Was expecting solid defensive play and he’s absolutely delivered. But he’s quicker and craftier than I thought he’d be. He’s not really a stay at home dman in the conventional sense, at least not this season. It seems like he’s comfortable and confident here and has found a perfect role and fit next to chabby.

Thumbs up to Jensen and also Staios.

Once Zub draws back in and Hamonic slots in where he should be (nachos upstairs?? Ha. He’s been pretty good though tbf), this d corps looks damn solid.

Jensen turning 35 in the fall coming off what seems to be a serious surgery & recovery could be time to move on from him if it's even possible to move him now, they could use his money somewhere else. Given this injury it could end up being an in-season move leading up to the trade deadline.

I thought I was in the minority but now maybe not... I think getting a top 4 quality RD should be the priority for this team. I like our depth up front and I like our D but Jensen and Zub are likely to miss time and I think adding another would be the best move. Depth at RD in this league is a luxury most don't have but I think we are well served adding another if we can find a good one.

Great year that trade was not great tho. Man. Dangers of trading good assets for very old guys. How did we not get a first back.

Don't like the trade either

hopefully Staois can cook and gain some more talent back in other deals

Jensen made the Senators better than Chychrun would have been if he'd not been traded.

The Sens needed a RD. That's pretty obvious. They couldn't get one in free agency. Would you rather they keep Chychrun, missed the playoffs and then lost him for nothing in July?

I don’t think we miss the playoffs with chychrun. And I’m not saying he wasn’t trade bait.

But I think staios got fleeced a tad. Waited and then went for thatcapitals were getting rid of Jensen anyway. If we didn’t give them chychrun they likely would have paid someone to take Jensen or accepted a late round pick

I doubt we move him, it would be a terrible message for the team. Play through pain for half a year, to help this group make the playoffs for the very first time, on something that needed surgery, and then get moved to SJ in the summer.

Knowing this the Sens could LTIR him until January or later and use the money to sign another RH Dman. Bring him back late in the year and it's as good as a trade deadline pickup.

Jensen will recover and be ready for thr season. Great pro, great Dman - our RD depth is fine. Injuries happen, it’s part of hockey,

Until he got injured, Jensen was one of the best additions on D. He still could be very good after returning. We've only got a year left on his contract. Therefore, I don't see this as a bad situation. If they have to LTIR him at the beginning of the season and it opens up room for another RD, then all we get is depth. Thankfully, no more Hamonic.
