Drury has authority to remake the entire player procurement system. He mentioned analytics. What else is he looking for?

I mentioned this Friday but Bobrov was Gorton’s guy so not surprising.

Bummer for us but with this exec shakeup this drain of talent was inevitable

When scouts leave like this after season/before draft do we have all the intel they accumulated over the season? Or when we hire someone new do we depend on whatever scouting they've done? The way I imagined it was that during the season the GM isn't really doing scouting and that at the end of the season the scouts bring a bunch of stuff to them and show them which players they like, etc? Anyone know how it works?

Honestly, our European draft picks since he took over as director have been...underwhelming, to say the least.

1st round: Lias, Chytil, Kravtsov, Lundkvist, Kakko
2nd round: Lindbom, Henriksson
3rd round: Ragnarsson, Tärnström
4th round: Reunanen
5th round: Själin, Pajuniemi, Aaltonen
6th round: Lakatos, Kjellberg, Edström
7th round: Virta, Ollas

the entire draft personnel/strategy is due for a massive overhaul, they haven't drafted a single elite high end offensive talent

How much of this is on our scouting and how much is on our player development? If the Rangers draft Brayden Point and Anthony Cirelli, do they develop into the players they are today?

What? We saw what happened in 2012-15, and it cost them a Cup

Considering where NYR were drafting I'd argue they did pretty well with picks leading into the cup stretch.

Cherapanov died unexpectedly. Kreider, Miller, Stepan, Anisimov all became good second line players. Miller and Buchnevich are now scoring at a first line pace.

I'm not saying it couldn't have been better, but they had one top ten pick from 2005 to 2016. We didn't find any late diamonds in the rough like Pastrnak for sure, but those are pretty rare.

I mean the Kakko pick was gonna be made no matter who was scouting but thats pretty underwhelming outside of finding Lundkvist Kravtsov and Chytil in the 1st round. Everything outside of the 1st round is pretty much nothing.

There were plenty of top players drafted deep into the 1st round and beyond.

But man the 2003 draft absolutely killed us and is what in my opinion actually cost us a Cup over that time frame. If we come away with Mike Richards or Ryan Kesler leading that 2012 Black and Blueshirts team... or an 87 point Ryan Getzlaf to go against Kopitar, or a back to back Selke Bergeron leading us into Game 7 against Tampa....

Anyone involved in the Lias pick needs to be fired too, that was the first top 10 pick in a decade and they still somehow managed to bone that up. Pretty inexcusable.

2003 was awful, as was 2010.

But it's worth keeping in mind that in 2008 we got arguably the best forward in the draft taken outside of the first round.

I agree that we never got one huge "hit" late in the draft at the forward position, but they got a lot of role players, and in my opinion the bigger problem with the drafting over the years has been wasting too many high picks on goaltenders, and obviously trading so many picks away for unsuccessful rentals and star acquisitions.
