I think this is the approach we have to take, but personally I would want to find a way to get rid of him. He cost us twice. We are the fools believing in this crap again..

Of course, he is a top player when playing, but .. sick of his selfish act.
While I agree, getting rid of Nuke is an Avs death sentence. While our window is rapidly closing, this will for sure slam it shut. Who knows what happens with Rants but signing him to a large deal or loosing him + Nuke will be curtains for this team. The Avs have absolutely no choice to let it play out imo.
The one thing that’s concerning for me, is his country of origin. We know that he could get big bucks to play in Russia and be a superstar there. He wouldn’t have to worry about the constant worry of the assistance program following him around, popping random UA’s and all that comes with it. Obviously, I’m sure he’d like to be completely sober but that shit is HARD (duh). I’ve been thru it. Been on the other side 10+ years now with a million mess ups to get there.
So if he has a bad day, a bad week or a moment of weakness, he essentially has a get out of jail free card in going home and playing. For me, that’s the biggest challenge and potential hiccup. He will always have that “f*** it” I can just go home and play” in the back of his head.
I really hope this works out but it’s 50/50 to me.
