The question of the day is

"Is Nicholas Robertson NHL Worthy?"

After the Teams controversial decision to play him this year as a scratch, Leaf fans are wondering if he is ready for the NHL? The Team got a first look at him in the 2020 NHL Playoff Qualifiers where he scored 1 goal in 4 games. However, his speed and playmaking style has really got Fans wondering if he is ready to lace up the skates for the Team?

Let me know what you guys think.

He didn't quite look ready in the scrimmage. Nothing wrong with that though as he's still a complete and utter greenhorn. The Leafs are doing the right by giving him a bit more time, and are going to be the beneficiaries of that patience for years to come in the form of a top line/all star calibre player.

He'll play at least a few games over the next few weeks I'd say. My guess is Vesey or someone underwhelms to start (or Thornton moves down) and they give Robertson a shot.

I don't know if he's ready, but thank goodness he didn't go play a major role on a gold medal WJHC team. He would have missed a couple practices with AHLers and a scrimmage.

i have to agree, I found it odd they opted to not send him. Considering the leafs have a history of falling apart in pressure situations, you would have thought going through a high profile, pressure filled tourney, would have been great for him going forward.

I think a lot of people are basing his scrimmage performance on his goal (which was...wow), but he didn't look quite ready the rest of the game. Nothing wrong with practicing with the big club, maybe play in the AHL if that league gets up and going, and potentially slide in when the inevitable injuries come.

Patience. Taxi squad isn't a developmental death sentence.

He didn't want to go. He wanted to focus on making the team.

Four games on a grander stage might still not be the same as the grind of a 56 game season. Sooner or later, his opportunity will come.

He’s eligible to play AHL as long as the OHL hasn’t started up yet, correct?

Yes, but it looks like they are keeping him on the taxi squad for now.

That at least makes some sense since the AHL season likely doesn't start up much earlier than the OHL season, so he gains more by sitting with the Leafs than sitting with the Marlies.

Sometimes you got to sit a kid down and tell him da truth ... all it would take is Dubie to call him and let him know we think as an org it would be best for our collective development if you get to play pressure best on best hockey rather than skating with AHL team ... then you let him know where CAP is and what ur plan is to start year ... u come out like a rock star and it puts more pressure on club to insert u in lineup faster ... everyone better off

If Dubas thought he would be better off going to the WJC I am sure he would have told him to go. He must have agreed with Robertson.

I have him as a real darkhorse breakout candidate, actually. Kid has real goal scoring ability, more than most wingers we have. Because of that and his work rate I could see him in at least a third line spot by end of year.

He'll eventually get his opportunity, but it's not surprising to me that he's on the outside looking in, to start.

He looked out of his depth in the CBJ series, which is okay - he'll come good when he's ready.

The only shame of not being on the Leafs opening roster is that he could have played in the WJC and won a gold medal with team USA for his development.

Actually I thought he looked great in that series. One of the few leafs with a good motor. Quite frankly I was surprised that they replaced him with Johnsson in game 5 who was coming off an injury and was rusty.

The coach made a comment something along the lines of he stuck out working hard all summer and wanted his shot at the team and it would be insulting not to let him come to camp

Bet he gets in atleast 1 of the games this weekend
Yes Barabanov likely comes out and Robertson goes in likely Saturday night at home unless someone gets hurt HAHAHAHA on Friday night ... maybe Spezz takes one on da foot if you know what i mean

I'd like to see Robertson in for Barabonov. Just don't see what he brings yet. If you're 4th line you have to either be physical, or a special teams guy. Barabonov doesn't hit, and isn't on the PK or PP. Robertson plays with a bit of "fiesty" in his game, and would be a tremendous asset on one of the PP units with his nose for the net and rocket of a shot. Is Barabonov really in our long term plans like Robertson is? We have a great opportunity this year to play the kid beside Spezza and Simmonds. Two vets that could help him a lot. Spezza is still a good passer and playmaker, and Simmonds provides protection. Leaves Robertson to be the shooter that he is on that line. Plus the added benefit of all the player coaching he'd get from Spezza and Simmonds back on the bench. Just don't see the need for Barabonov over Robertson. But that's just my opinion
