Niagara Icedogs 2024-25 Season Thread, Part IV

They just figured it out a few days before the draft…

That is a little harsh;. They couldn't do anything after the trade deadline. They didn't want to do anything before the deadline and blow up the team because it looked like they could make a decent playoff run.

I completely understand and supported the idea of standing pat.

What does the trade deadline have to do with August

My point is / was 8 months ago and today. Wtf trade it away to begin with! Why does everyone know this but our hockey ops. They’re completely Clueless.

It’s very F driven at the top of the board BUT With the influx of US players in play and some goalies, there is the possibility of Green or someone of his ability available to the IceDogs in the 2nd round. Unfortunately, you need a 2nd round pick to make that a possibility. Wes get on your “Sell Phone” and close the deal on a 2nd round pick
The Attack have an extra , late 2nd rd pick. And I believe 17 picks overall.

No indication at all what they plan to do with it.

As of today it's still on the board.

I forgot, Who did we get for that 2nd, Arrowsmith?

If so, I think it was worth it.
No that is not who we got for that 2nd. And if it were Arrowsmith you have got be kidding me! Let’s not revisit that ridiculous price tag for a 4th line player. The 2nd was a fkn stupid decision part of the three way deal they overpaid in. They could have included the 2026 2nd instead of the 2025 2nd. DE it’s stupidity on our hockey ops. Everyone knows it except for our hockey ops and now apparently you.

I don't generally hate all of our moves. I hate the sheer number of moves. That is a different matter.

I think Arrowsmith will be a decent 2nd line player eventually. Maybe not next year but the year after. I saw flashes of brilliance in his play a couple of times. He is still very young.

Was he a 4th liner because of play though or was it because DDD made decisions over Ben’s head?

…not only do the IceDogs not have a 2nd, they don’t have two 3rd , nor do they have two 4th .

Here is our 09 draft class. WTF! Great planning!

RD 1 10th Niagara

RD 3 49th Niagara

RD 4 78th Niagara

According to reliable contributor OHL4life, the top six selections are locked in:
1. Petes: K. McGregor
2. Guelph: J. Wycisk
3. Ottawa: B. Chitaroni
4. Sarnia: B. Lammens
5. Owen Sound: M. Delisle
6. NB: C. Warren

According to Realtor Wes, “Obviously something unexpected could happen. If someone breaks through that first group of players that you didn’t think would be in there that may shuffle some picks but we’re just going to have to see what the other teams do in front of us.”

For the most part, Realtor Wes knows which players are being selected before them. That leaves names such as Charlie Murata and Ryerson Edgar still on the board at pick 7, however, the names most closely linked to Niagara are: F - Noah Laus; D - Alex Forrest; D - Matthew Perreault.

He’s projected as one of top D in the 09 draft class. Outstanding skater!

I would be disappointed if we didn't focus on getting a D man.
Here is our 09 draft class.

RD 1 10th Niagara

RD 3 49th Niagara

RD 4 78th Niagara

Perhaps, as IceDog fans we may need to temper our expectations. With only these picks of any real significance, a minuscule scouting staff, player agent uncertainty, we may eventually look back at this as a failed draft class, similar to our 06s’ draft, that only produced one player (Kevin He).

Great pick at 10!

Ryerson Edgar (RF) – York Simcoe Express OMHA East (5.11 / 165) #17
OHL CENTRAL SCOUTING

2025 #OHLDraft Prospect Profile: Ryerson Edgar - Ontario Hockey League
SCOUTING REPORT: Ryerson is the leader on his team offensively. He is the driving force to the majority of their offense. He is a very good skater that has a top end speed, which makes him hard to handle off the rush, and very good edges that make him shifty down low off the cycle. He has that ability to hold onto the puck for the extra half a second to draw someone in and then make a nice pass to set up a teammate for a scoring chance. He is consistently his team’s best player.

Some really good D are going to be available in the 2nd round for fk sakes! Without a 2nd round 09 pick (D) to link up with Ryerson Edgar, is idiotic draft capital management.
