But we wouldn’t have needed to make a trade for a goalie had DD not traded away Constanzo (GAA 2.72, SAV 0.903) to Windsor for a measly 4th and 12th round draft pick. Another DD blunder.

Costanzo was a dead end for Niagara. His pre-season 5.37 GAA & 0.838 SV% showed he was not capable of steady play for a rebuilding Niagara, he was not good for re-tooling Windsor last season, and he has not yet been at all good in the playoffs.

Dickinson was traded for 3 2nds, 3 3rds and Niagara also got Czata out of it. No point in complaining about the trade it clearly worked out fine for Niagara.

When Max Domi didn’t report to kingston- Kingston got 3 second rounders and the better Sam Bennett anyways.

So Domi for:

Sam Bennett, Spencer Watson, Dylan Di Perna, Jakob Brahaney.

Kingston made out like bandits. I’m sure Niagara got some good guys too with those 6 picks plus Czata

IceDogs would still have got Czata, even if DD didn't return all those picks back to Mark Hunter in exactly 14 months. So, that is kind of an irrelevant point to this discussion.

Sigh …if you read the entire reply, you would have seen maybe a bit lower the further the bills go in the playoffs
I just assumed the Bills were going to continue having a good year.

Also, currently 9th place in attendance is Sudbury with 3,700 paid seats per game. With only 13 home games left in the season and with a current average attendance of 3,310 that means to go from 15th place to 10th, the IceDogs would have to have an average attendance of just under 4,330 for the rest of the year.

Where are the 1,000 extra bums coming from?

Damn I wish my friend @strohs was here to see me using math to prove a point.

You need to give up on this idea. This team is excellent and will be even better next year.
Actually, at this point the on-ice performance is irrelevant. If DD doesn't figure out how to boost attendance numbers, it's likely he won't be able to afford the team much longer. The Meridian Centre should be full each night given how well the team is performing. Yet the reported attendance leaves room for an extra 2,000 seats to be sold each night (and the actual attendance hovers around the 2,800 mark).

This probably explains why he is having interns cold-call former STHs, begging them to come back. Although @Countyview would rather I don't, DD is praying some STHs return to the fold. It's probably too little too late at this point, despite the on-ice success. That kind of initiative should have come at the end of year one, or when any STH called up to cancel their seats.

If like the last couple of seasons, attendance should rise late in the season. What would the average attendance need to be to get to 14; or 13,12,11?

They would’ve had 2 top 5 picks? Wanna explain how they do that without picking Dickinson?

If they don’t draft and trade Dickinson, IceDogs would have two top 5 picks, one in 2022 and one in 2023.
But not in the same draft. Also if they got a guy that did report and he was real good do you think there’s a chance they wouldn’t have had roobroeck land at their feet?

You asked me to explain how they end up with two top 5 picks. I did exactly as you asked. Besides, it's not necessary always advantageous that both players be from the same draft year. In fact, if the IceDogs were looking to go all in next year, they would be positioned a lot better if they had an 06 D like Ben Danford on this roster next season.
All of this still doesn't excuse DD, for trading all the picks he received for Dickinson in just over one year. And that is really what this discussion and fan revolt is centred around.

I’d rather have Czata and roobroeck plus extra picks they used to acquire players or still have left over over Dickinson who is gone next year

If they’re going for it next year roobroeck himself will be better than danford

Czata will take another leap too.

You can be pissy all you want regarding the ice dogs but this is actually something that’s worked out for them.

That is the point that’s been repeated over and over. IceDogs didn’t end up with any left over picks. DD traded them ALL plus one back to London in only 14 after that trade. Those series of trades with Mark Hunter really was the beginning of the end for DD with the STHs.

Yes but look at them now. Sam you can’t ever be happy.

There will be also be some teams whose attendance drops as the teams fade. Ottawa, Peterborough Sarnia and Saginaw I can all see being passed. It is interesting that a team like Barrie also has lowered attendance not as much but still.

Lets try this again.

Explain to me how having Czata and Roobroeck and no high draft picks is better than having Czata and Roobroeck and 7 high draft picks?
Explain how having Ben Danford is better than roobroeck and Czata?

If they trade he next year they get a crap ton of draft picks and can hope roobroeck is back as a 19 year old and go for it then

Playing what ifs doesn’t make sense. Niagara is doing really well this year thanks to those 2 I mentioned.

The picks from the Dickinson trade were used for much needed OHL players. Since you like to say the picks were all given back to London, the equivalent of the 3-2s, 3-3s, 5 were used for Flores, Federkow, Levin, Humphrey, Keane, & Paris.

Imagine they didn’t have Flores this year? Levin isn’t a bad player either.. hmm or paris

Humphrey and Federkow were bad pickups though.

So they got Flores, Levin, Paris, Czata out of the Sam Dickinson trade. Not bad..

Humphrey did not work out at all. Federkow was good for Niagara, I think. Keane unfortunately suffered a season ending knee injury.

Yes which is why it was a back pickup for Humphrey. Federkow 9 assists in 63 games 120 pims and -48. Keane was only for the 1 year so he didn’t make or break any deals
