Re: MSG go - can one watch that out of the tri-state area? I could probably leach on my parents account

As long as you’re in the US somewhere, yea it will still work if you travel or are located outside of the NY area market.

Can you purchase NHL Live here in Canada yet? What is the "early bird" price, I can't find anything online.

I cancelled my CI subscription as they were not giving me the "early bird" price. Got a flyer in the mail for the full price, $52.25 x 4 = $209.

EDIT - Holy f***, $209 IS the early bird, you get $10 off. Robbing f***ers

Sorry if I missed it but what is the current situation for people outside of US?

I'm in Australia (yes there are a handful of us that watch it down here!) and was charged $210 bucks from the auto debit thing they do for NHL.tv

Do I pursue a refund for this?

Is there a program for peasants like us or are we unworthy?

From a fellow aussie whos been stung before by their BS auto renew, make sure you request a refund ASAP as they put an incredibly short time period on it

Its listed at sportsnet as 179 earlybird / 199 latebird but when I click to proceed it just takes me to a page that basically states to stay tuned for more details . I downloaded the nhl live app to my roku anyways and it allows you to watch some highlights from past games and individual team pages that have some current interviews without paying anything.

I posted this link earlier in thread which shows the sportsnet price for it
What’s the difference between Sportsnet NOW and NHL LIVE? - Sportsnet NOW

yeah the bell CI price has been 209 (pre covid) for awhile now .

I’m surprised we haven’t gotten any official news about the out of market package. When I subscribed to ESPN+ they said it came with the out of market package, which is a huge discount from before. Why hasn’t the NHL made this official, and who will be carrying the audio feeds? Is the NHL app basically barebones now? Do I have to use two apps for my NHL consumption. This is a major change for how the league wants to televise games and right now I’m just confused by it. You don’t want your customers in the dark and bombard you with questions the day of opening night when you can clear things up now and point people in the right direction.

Nope. Not as of yet. It's one of my biggest issues with the service moving to ESPN+, because I often watch the same way you do.

Instead, you've got perform some sort of contortionist's trick, holding up a hand to cover where the score would be while rewinding to try to find the start of the game.

Or if you wait until the game is over to watch the replay, they show the full game time on the DVR controls--say, 2:34:36, which would clearly indicate a game didn't go to overtime, which would matter a lot if your team is down a goal with a few minutes to play. Pretty obvious what the outcome will be. Same as if the full game time is something like 2:56:29, which pretty much guarantees there's a shootout. A lot of people who see that won't even watch the game then, just the highlights.

To be honest, I've faced that problem quite a bit with NHL.TV over the last couple of the years. The Appple TV app has a 'Play From Beginning' option but the damn thing never works and it drops you live. So I always have to mute the TV, hide the scoreboard with my hand, and rewind as fast as I can lol. Good to know I'll at least have what I'm used to.

ESPN+ is your out of market package subscription and it was made official back when this was announced.

NHL deal with ESPN, Disney takes hockey into the future

"But ESPN will also produce 75 national games each regular season and stream them on ESPN+ and Hulu, and it will stream more than 1,000 out-of-market games each regular season on ESPN+, replacing NHL.TV."

It's right there. Just sub up to ESPN+. That's it.

fwiw I chatted with a rogers rep (sportsnet) and they said they are ironing out the final details on nhl live

this of course is pertaining to canadians

Am I thinking too much of the NHL for them to not charge people for a service that no longer exists? Surely they couldn't be that useless?

I had a feeling this bull shit might happen. That's why I cancelled mine right after the ESPN deal was announced.

I just cut the cord (DirecTV) a handful of days ago and subbed YouTube TV and ESPN+ (went ahead and pre-paid for the year for $69)...I'm hoping you're right regarding the monthly fee for ESPN+ cover ALL the out of market games - I'm a bit wary since nothing had been mentioned of actual cost and/or if said monthly fee covered everything, or an additional fee was to be paid for what was NHL TV.

Crossing my fingers.

if I buy nhl tv its listed at 179 canadian (stream through my roku) or 209 canadian through bell tv so we're getting soaked like you compared to the new U.S espn + plan ,

I'm still weighing my options because I'm new to streaming and dont want to waste 179 if the picture quality sucks verses what I'm already used to after having centre ice through bell for several years with very few hiccups

In general ive found the picture quality better then satellite. Satellite has a lot of compression in the picture while the video feed was clear.

The negative (which improved) was you cant set your picture quality. You can get auto quality dips and the game can drop from 1080 60 to 1080 30 (or whatever lower FPS)

On tablets, phones, and pc it is unacceptable and the reason ive given these sites 1 star reviews is you should have the option to select ur resolution quality. Mobile should allow downloads

New living situation, and I haven't needed Center Ice or any streaming for the last several years (and may still not) because of other things available to me...

I'm in the NYC market (Rangers, Isles, Devils)...it seems like from my reading that both Center Ice and ESPN+ will see me get blacked out of a lot of intra-divisional Penguins games. I'm aware of MSG Go, but I'm not aware of its capabilities...I need to be able to watch live, restart while in progress, and be able to watch the next day or even two days later.

From my readings on the subject, it sounds like I'll need to get ESPN+ and then something for the local stuff - but I can't tell if MSG Go is available for folks who don't have cable...and it doesn't like ESPN+ is going to skip over blackouts...

So, I guess I have to get a VPN out in front of my smart TV and then go the ESPN+ route...? Is that the most efficient thing to do in my stream of consciousness post...?

Espn+ doesnt work with vpn. When you go to find video its just a black screen with no links or videos.

What i expect is you will still have to pay a center ice/nhl tv price. I think you will also need to keep your espn+ service active as well.

I just dont expect the price to be lessened especially at 1/2-1/3 price

If there was an nhl subscription fee within ESPN+ we would've known a while ago (some language about subscription cost forthcoming).

It's a pretty good way to drive subs to either standalone ESPN+ or the ESPN/Hulu/Disney bundle.

I had a bit of a look around the NHL.com-website to see the price for streaming all the matches this year. Interestingly enough the link on this page

Where to Stream

for NHL.tv outside the United States sends me to the ESPN+-page with prices quoted in euro's. But no NHL-logo anywhere. Weird. Could not find a price for NHL.tv anywhere.

Edit:

This page:

Where to Stream (which seems kind of the same)

links to an 'Oof! We aren't able to display that page right now. Please try again in a little while' page (nhl.com/subscribe)

Weird.

Every page in those links leads back to the same ESPN+ sign up page for me. There's no additional cost beyond the price of ESPN+. You can't pay for something that no longer exists, and nhl.tv no longer exists.

There were already two or three live hockey games on ESPN+ most nights. Same with MLB. Nobody pays extra for that access. Consider it the same as when the WWE Network folded in the states and got put into Peacock. You didn't need Peacock first to pay for the network. It just got bundled into Peacock at no additional cost. Same thing here.

I believe ESPN+ is only valid here in the States...Canada/Europe still has some form of what was NHL TV - that's why some outside the US might be getting directed there and why there might be an additional fee.

That is the issue. I am in the Netherlands and we are supposed to keep NHL.tv. But with only a few weeks to go to the start of the season there is no pricing information, no way to subscribe. I find that perplexing for what is supposed to be a business.

The second link now works for me too, but indeed to the ESPN plus page with prices in euro's.

Assuming the $6.99/month or $69.99/year subscription prices for ESPN+ remain stable thru Oct, for me it makes good sense to sign up for a full year. ESPN+ typically offers a wide variety of sports coverage, in addition to the NHL. In the past, ESPN+ has published a month's advance notice of any new price increases. We'll see how these details become more clear over the next 6 weeks leading up to the start of the new NHL season. No need to sign up for anything now.
The NHL is a great sports league, but they're terribly inept and clumsy at managing and operating their product in the worldwide television/streaming marketplace.
