We're doing cuts here too, right? Habs made a fairly large one including Bitten who has nowhere to go back to.
Why can't he go back to Flint..?

He can but he's not going to, requesting a trade.

Forgive me if im wrong...but do we have our first player under contract but NOT invited to camp in Nashville's Yakov Trenin?
Not quite. Yakov Trenin broke his leg in a biking accident at the end of June and is expected to be out for awhile.
It's not uncommon for injured players, whether in the system or under contract, to be left off of the teams' official training camp roster (see the Buffalo Sabres' training camp roster released a few days ago, notice Cody McCormick isn't on there).
It's also not uncommon for players under contract but loaned to a European league to not be invited to training camp whatsoever as their European club's season would already be a few weeks into their season.
However, there have been cases where players under contract have just been straight up not invited to camp. The most recent cases I can think of off the top of my head were Andrew Crescenzi with the Kings the year after they traded for him, and Kevin Henderson, ironically of the Nashville Predators, in the last year of his 2-year extension in 2014-15, when he wasn't even assigned to Milwaukee, rather subsequently loaned to the Texas Stars that season.
Austin Levi and Beau Schmitz were both ignored by Carolina in 2014

LIGHTNING ANNOUNCE 2016 TRAINING CAMP ROSTER AND SCHEDULE

News Release: The #Sens have unveiled their 2016-17 training camp roster: http://ottsens.com/2cm4BXy
This link seems to redirect back to the NHL.com main page. Has anyone actually seen the official Lightning training camp roster?
Keith Aulie has to be just about the oddest name I've seen invited so far. Unless Alex Kovalev gets one...
Kenton Helgesen, who is in the last year of his 3-year entry-level contract, is not on the Anaheim Ducks training camp roster.
As far as I can tell, this is the first instance thus far of a player under contract not being invited to camp.
I'd say MA Bergeron getting a PTO is a bit more surprising, Aulie only spent one year in Europe.
^ Kevin Czuczman invite on AHL contract, too.
