NHL trade deadline in two weeks...

Get whatever you can for expiring contracts.

But, not interested in Zucker past one year or Greenway past two years.

The type of players we need to add aren't getting moved now, and if they are, they are rentals so it makes no sense.

Kind of a weird trade for the Ducks given they're doing okay with young left-handed puck movers. Also, I'd pass on Zegras unless we're moving on from one of our young forward under-performers.

Looks dubious for both teams. I would still understand the logic of Cozens for Zegras or Quinn for Zegras. To find a top 6 playmaker we have to try very hard and most of them are unavailable to us. Well, at least Zegras has two seasons with 60+ points. I think Zegras does make sense if we can't add a more proven top 6 C of a different type and that we need. Zegras is not similar in style to Tage, Kulich and McLeod.

That said.....I've got zero issue with Krebs as a 4C. He's fine. Could we do better? Sure. We could also do a whole lot worse.

Krebs is 24 with (at the end of this season) almost 300 NHL games under his belt.

He is what he is, at this point. A replacement level player. (You can argue that he was poorly developed and I won't disagree).

The roster needs to get better, not stay the same.z

EDIT: The organization has a history of keeping players they know and not upgrading. They need to break that cycle, and soon.

I don't love the idea of bringing a locker room problem into a fragile locker room.

- Greenway is a don't touch unless he explicitly says he 100% will not sign here. I thought there were rumors or something he wants out but I can't find them
- Krebs - not moving him unless it's a good hockey trade.
- Joki - move him out.
- Zucker - if it's not a second or better, keep him.

Actively shop Samuelsson, Bryson, NAK and Lafferty, Reimer (a goalie has to come back, FLA, Dreiger?)

I have a mild concern that this year's excuse will be that they don't want to move guys in Buffalo for fear of making Rochester worse while at the same time doing nothing to try to get Rochester to an AHL championship. Just a feeling.

Boesner has been connected to the Iles for a while, not sure he would extend in Buffalo ?

I think I would rather see the Sabres seriously try and extend Byram and keep that pairing together, but it does take two. Dahlin moving back to the right side may also put a wrench in any decision Byram might make seeing his preference is also on right.
