NHL to talk to teams about tampering (the GMs)

Andlauer is definitely new to hockey. Larry Brooks has been making up stuff for years. Yes, he has legitimate sources and is an insider, but tosses out bogus stuff all the time.
I said this on the Rangers board: in 2020 Larry talked about nothing but Josh Anderson for like 18 straight articles. The Rangers never got him.

Larry sometimes let's out some legit smoke, and other times, he just gets a boner for a guy and starts shamelessly cheerleading. If you've followed the Rangers for any length of time, you can always tell the difference.

Tkachuk is exactly the type of player Larry has a photo of on his nightstand and there hasn't been anything concrete on Tkachuk coming here. There are some light rumors that maybe he might be traded from Ottawa, and the Rangers are *checks notes* another team in the NHL.

It reminds me of old Tony Gallagher, who used to cover the Canucks. One day he started talking about Martin Erat and how great he would be on the Canucks, and wrote articles continuously about how he would be a great fit. These writers always blur the lines between legitimate rumours or just stuff they have in the heads.

Elliot Friedman does it always and he's one of the better ones now. It's always a "thought" or "wouldn't it be great if...."

I think Andlauer is within his rights to be annoyed. The Rangers are flailing and trying anything they can to move the needle.

The week before the Brady stuff, they did the exact same thing with JT Miller - they saw a player on leave personal reasons and decided to chum the waters with trade rumours in case he decided to request one.

Technically legal, but I can absolutely see why it would piss off other GMs. Allvin had to spend a week putting down rumours of a trade, all because NYR are desperate.

There isn't much they can do.

Let's say McDavid was a UFA next July. There is no rule or nothing you can do to prevent Matthews, MackInnon, Matthew Tkachuk etc from calling him before then, trying to convince him to sign with their team.

Thats why NBA GMs barely have to do any recruiting. Their players will call other players.

The negotiating window made a lot of sense. Don't know why they changed that. Maybe they want free agent day to be a longer/bigger deal? But that's just stupid.

And there's always rumours about what players teams may be interested in. They have to have those discussions internally. If they leak, they leak. That's not anyone's fault. And players are obviously going to talk to their friends about playing together, because of course.

There's no way around these things with the rules they have now. Punishing it harsher won't fix anything. Make rules that teams and players can work with.

Between this and the way Trouba was managed, you'd have to think the league isn't too fond of the Rangers at this moment in time. Imagine they miss the playoffs, too, and you might see a lot of movement. Probably not Brady, though, because the fallout of this is the Sens management is never trading Brady to New York, and they'll likely be in a rebuild phase when Brady is UFA.

It's not just about the Rangers, but Andlauer is also sticking up for his team's captain, and telling the rest of the league to f*** off and stop it with the baseless Tkachuk rumors. Lots of teams are trying to pry him off Ottawa, and are starting these stupid rumors to instigate things.

Andlauer is right.

The NHL should use this case to send the message that you don't discuss players under contract to another team. Period.

Do an investigation, and if there is enough evidence then impose a fine and transfer a draft pick from NYR to Ottawa.

Just my opinion -- and I'm not at all a Sens' fan.

Love the comments by Senators as that is EXACTLY what happened in that situation.

Complete BS

Small market/canadian teams have to work 4x as hard to develop and nurture their guys to be able to get them to commit and retain them, and even then it doesn't always work.

I think the Sens have every right to be upset here. 75% of the league already runs to the big bright lights cities without allowing them to tamper and flirt with them through the media. NYR, Vegas and others don't need even more legal loopholes to help them "steal" more talent from the have-nots.

“That’s an irresponsible accusation”

“We defer to the Commissioner’s office”

Always look for what they didn’t say.

Nothing in there to suggest they didn’t do exactly what they’re being accused of. In the absence of a direct denial, this comes off as attacking the whistleblower and calling on Bettman to shut down the story.
