I mean, we are choosing the top teams for the year and the top teams are usually who we think has a chance to win a cup. In all honesty outside out Lou, no-one really knows what the Isles are doing behind closed doors. With contracts rumored to already be signed for Cizikas, Palmeri, Parise, Beau, and Sorokin, gotta hope that Lou has something up his sleeve. Time will tell

Would you have viewed Dallas as a top team last year?

Did Dallas make back to back conference finals and have the best coach in the league?

They actually made it to the Cup finals and they had taken the Stanley Cup Champion to Game 7 OT the year prior.

I dunno. Islanders play a style that succeeds in the playoffs. It succeeded in the regular season three years ago, but the past two seasons the Isles have lucked out that they were even in the playoffs and that Philadelphia completely collapsed. Otherwise they wouldn't have even been in the playoffs.

Hard for me to call a team that is regularly going on 5 - 10 game losing streaks one of the top five teams in the league.

I guess I just have a different interpretation of "team ranking".

If this was what team is most likely to win a cup, I guess I can understand the Isles being 4th.

What have the Islanders done to improve over the teams ahead of them last year?

I thought that is exactly what we are voting for.

Are we supposed to be basing it on league rankings at the end of the season before the playoffs start?

To me the topic says rate them based on where they are at this year versus where they are at because of their history.

That is why I question the Islanders being 4th. I don't see how that team as currently constructed is viewed as the 4th best team in the league in vacuum. Even if we assume they are signing Palmieri Cizikas and Parise.

Florida for me here.

Wasn’t a fan of Carolina’s off season especially what they did with their goaltending, and losing Hamilton hurts.

Florida played Tampa tough and were the better regular season team in a division with Carolina and Tampa... it was close between them and NYI it shouldn't be that close rn, esp. when it seems like Carolina took a step back (or stayed the same at best) while Florida improved in the offseason.

And that’s relevant to this coming season how?

proven playoff success matters... isn’t that why we just voted in NYI at 4?

with that said Florida going now is fine, all the teams are so close now.

guys no one vote for the Leafs, HF is gonna dfo HF things and put us way too low then we can all laugh when we finish above most of the teams they think we are below. Personally I would have the Leafs at 3 or 4

Maybe because they aren’t as good as the teams being voted for already? Those teams are deeper and better coached. The Leafs will land where they should, which is the bottom half of the top 10.

Isn't that essentially what this is? I've been ranking based on who I think has the best Cup chances (or at least best chances of going multiple rounds), not which team will rack up the most points in the regular season before losing in the first round.

Funny stuff. Florida always goes under the radar. Florida was better than Tampa last season in the same division and while Tampa has lost their entire 3rd line and Florida added Reinhart, Montour Tampa is No1 and Florida out of Top5?

Not winning a playoff series for 25 years might have something to do with going under the radar. And winning back to back cups might have something to do with Tampa being #1.

Did you watch the playoffs? Florida was actually asclose to winning the series even without their 1D. Goaltending was the one thing that Tampa was better at.

Leafs will fall where they deserve to be, around 7 or 8, not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Imagine thinking a team that can't win a 1st round playoff series and hasn't won a real division title in 21 YEARS is the 3rd or 4th best team in the league. THIS is why people regularly hate on the Leafs. 80% of you are delusional and happen to be the most vocal.

IMO only Tampa and Avs are clearly better.
As an Oiler fan you saw how good we were last year, remove those last 3 games and I kinda think we would be ranked up in the top 5
