NHL team branding that you like, dislike, or have an opinion about

Anaheim: The eggplant was outstanding. Bring it back.

Boston: It's O6, it's always been what it is, don't change it.

Buffalo: Make your logos about swords or change your name. You're not the Buffalo Bison.

Calgary: Their current set is good. A bit McDonalds but it's unique and it works.

Carolina: Bring back the 2006 jerseys.

Chicago: Don't change anything.

Colorado: The blue is stupid. The pants are stupid. It doesn't work, go back to what you had just before it was perfect. Points for unique colour.

Columbus: I don't mind it, it fits. Good font.

Dallas: extremely underrated. The green is awesome, far superior to the 90's jersey people love for some reason. Unique, don't change anything except the collar. Change the collar.

Detroit: Don't change anything

Oilers: I hate blue and orange together personally but it works. Logo is kind of lame but too iconic to change.

Panthers: Far superior to what they had. Don't change.

Kings: Chevy logo is too big, bottom stripe is WAY TOO BIG. Looks stupid. Fix the proportions or go back to purple.

Minnesota: props on the green but everything else about your branding has never done it for me. Not a fan. The North Star template on the other hand is awesome.

Montreal: Fix your collars, other than that nothing to change.

Nashville: Honestly, a massive eyesore.

New Jersey: Needs a bottom stripe, but the foundation is good.

Islanders: Same with the Oilers, I hate the colours. I think the logo kind of sucks too. But the template isn't bad at all.

Rangers: Don't change anything

Ottawa: So much better than before. Pretty awesome.

Philadelphia: Points for being the orange team (sorry Anaheim) even if I personally don't like it. Don't change anything major.

Pittsburgh: Perfect, except the logo could stand to be slightly smaller.

San Jose: Looks really clean now.

Seattle: They're awesome. Their branding is the only good part of the franchise so far

Blues: They look great

Tampa: Boring but it works. Wouldn't be adverse to them doing something slightly more creative eventually.

Toronto: Looks good, don't change anything

Utah: They're fine but I think the logo is a bit bland

Vancouver: Wish they would change it to something non-whale related, they're not the Vancouver Orcas.

Vegas: Jersey looks good. I actually prefer the grey, but I understand they want to be more flashy.

Washington: Horrible template. Colours are fine but why that template still???

Winnipeg: Really underrated imo. The only thing I don't like about it is the font isn't my favourite. They should keep these jerseys and always have those navy alternates on hand, because those rock too.

I personally dislike the shoulder patch on Utah's jerseys of the state with a stick, like they could be more creative, maybe put numbers there instead.

- Gold and Silver helmets look like hell.
- Helmets with big logo on side (Detroit with the NFL look) are atrocious
- Golden Knights home jerseys are a fugly colour
- Ducks Creamsicle look is too much orange
- Why do the Sharks change their jerseys every 2 years it seems?
- Oilers need a secondary logo on the shoulder yokes

I think Hurricanes should put the main logo back on the white. If they are intent on the lettering then i i wouldnt mind Carolina diagonally.

I just don't like "Canes"
Carolina over a palm tree, a shout out to the other Carolina

Never, and I don’t have interest. Loved my trip to Arizona though
I think that’s kinda why you don’t see the connection to the Vegas branding. I’ve been there very often so I can see the importance of the gold.

I was always a fan of these Oilers jersey's.

I wish they would keep the current blue one as an alt and return to using these as their mains.

Vegas is awesome, even for someone like me who doesn't gamble.

Gun Garage, Anthony Cool, La Reve, Red Canyon horseback riding....

Haven't been since the Knights arrived though. When the Sens visit!

I like the ducks orange but Preds yellow is brutal. Needs another colour mixed in there.
I love the yellow.

I like pretty much all the yellow jerseys that have been-Kibgs, Canucks, Penguins, Predators....

Not the Bruins though; hated the logo

I love the originals much more. They were awesome. Not a fan if the gold although I do see the connection

The Tampa Bay Lightning.

Between Jeff Vinik and Steve Yzerman, they wanted some new look and made it in the vain of the Leafs and Red Wings.

A team with a unique identity and name was stripped of this by utilizing a logo picked straight out of Microsoft Clip Art. And if that wasn't bad enough, they put that pathetic logo on jerseys stolen from the Leafs and faded in the sun.

They had victory stripes under the arms since the inception, something unique and not everyone noticed and created by founder Phil Esposito. They got rid of that feature, despite my recollection that they spoke of bringing them back.

Fans were initially upset with the rebrand, especially with the lack of black. So they acquiesced by putting black lines around the numbers and adding a bolt to the pants with a black outline. This was a feeble attempt at appeasement, yet because many fans are fickle, it was forgotten quickly, and fans and season ticket holders seemed to just let it go.

They have black thirds, but doesn't make up for the uber plain blue and white Leafs copy. They are not the Leafs and have not been in the league for 100 years. They shouldn't look like that.

Vinik wanted his branding so bad that he permitted the joke they wear on the ice and allowing it to go on this long. Cups don't void lack of aesthetics. Pens changed a year after theirs.

Now it's been way too many years with the same bland and uninspired look. The bland look went stale long ago, and Vinik is one of the few that doesn't think so. My hope that as he steps away from the team, the new ownership group finally fixes the mess that this team is.

When original 6 teams have more complex and involved logos with depth than a team from the 90's with a name like Lightning, it's pretty sad.

The color scheme of the Lightning jerseys I actually like but the logo itself reminds me of Gatorade

Don’t have an ounce of hate for the Canes as a team/franchise, but have always disliked their branding. I see their red jerseys and all I can think of is the displaced Whalers playing in front of empty green seats at Greensboro Coliseum.

Feels like a placeholder brand that they’ve barely changed 30 years later. Don’t know how else to describe it.

Their black jersey with the storm warning logo is aight for me. Wasn’t a fan of them co-opting the Whalers branding, even as a seldom used alternate.

That or a company "Electric" also uses the same generic look.

Only so many ways you can depict lightning...

Not really, considering the amount of colors and style of an lightning bolt, you shouldn't be only resigned to use a logo that belongs more in an emoji set than a logo for a sports team.

Also they have two previous depictions of lightning, both which are far superior to their current logo. The comparison when you look at all 3 reinforces that.

Red, black and white primary colors for too many teams is annoying. At least the Devils used to have some green in there until they ditched that.
In baseball, this is how I felt when the Diamondbacks abandoned their purple & teal for red in 2007. Too many teams have red as their primary color, and in the NL alone there's the Reds, Cardinals, Phillies, and Nationals.

Phillies to me is more to the purple side than red.

I have heard many times that red is a popular colour for branding because of its association with power

Best Logo: Detroit Red Wings
- It's beautifully elegant – balanced, interesting to look at, complex without being too busy. The wings & wheel convey dynamic 'movement'. Plus it's ONE COLOUR! How many logos work perfectly without a complementary colour? No modern design firm would take the time to develop something so well conceived. St Louis and Philadelphia logos are the lesser grandkids of Detroit's design.

HM: People laughed at Utah's placeholder "Hockey Club" name, but guess which team's been using the exact same name for 116 years? The Montreal "Club de hockey", otherwise known as the "CH" in the Habs' iconic logo. From the embryo of hockey's beginning emerged an elegant shape that survives remarkably unchanged over a century later. Somehow, the "CH" works really well as a standalone icon even in today's modern branding.

Overrated:
- Minnesota. Yes, the multiple references stuffed into an animal head are clever. However, as a final shape the sum is less than its parts. Dark green and dark red look muddy mixed together.
- Chicago. What?? Overrated logo?? Yup. On its own, the logo is a cartoonish profile that's not well designed. Here's the secret: The Hawks are the only team whose jersey and logo have two entirely different colour schemes. The jersey is red, black and white. The logo said, "F*** that" and went off on a tangent of brown, green, orange and yellow. The logo's hand-drawn style and colour accents make the whole thing pop. The uniform is beautiful because the logo adds dashes of colour to the jersey's solid foundation. But the logo itself is meh.

The New Kids:
- Vegas: Effective, if unremarkable. The "V" in the helmet is clever and nicely integrated. I like the colours. The gold adds the right level of garishness for a city famous for it.
- Seattle and Utah: Looks like they hired the same agency that designed Nashville's logo. Clever, slick, modern. First impression: I like them, however we need a few years to see how they look alongside the others.

I'd happily take a big Habs logo over an advertisement for Bell.

Utah could take the Habs logo and rotate it 90 degrees, maybe add some space up top, and voila!- they have Utah Hockey Club logo
