Where does he fit? I’d definitely agree if they hadn’t made the trade for PLD but I don’t see a spot or the cap space for EP, unless your suggestion is that Strome goes back the otherwise way as part of the deal.
 
Yeah I don't have a logical fit for him. I just think if he is traded he is going to flourish and I wish there was a way he'd fit here.

Would have to be Strome & Mangiapane, plus whatever else, just to get the dollars to work — much less the value

Regardless of who the real Strome is, Strome since the moment he was signed with the Capitals has been of the better players on the team, maybe in the entire league by a contract/play quality ratio. If you take him out of the lineup and replace with the guy making more than twice the amount Strome is you better get on the board someone much more proven than Pettersson who's also struggling at the moment.

Long story short, you either trade Strome for Mackinnons/Rantanens/Kaprizovs/Kucherovs/Barkovs of the world (obviously adding a bunch of picks/prospects) or don't touch him at all.

Pettersson is plenty proven, he's probably a top 13 or 14 centre in the league over his entire career, not including this weird locker room year. Meanwhile, I don't think Strome is even the best centre on the Capitals.

The only reason I'd balk at the idea is the money, I agree with that. But I think Pettersson is good enough to go for it... it'd almost certainly mean moving out Sandin with him, which would be tough since he's been very good this year, but Hutson is coming as early as 2026 to replace him in an ideal world.

I love EP’s talent when he’s healthy and engaged. But, he hasn’t really been either of those things consistently since he signed his big deal a year ago. He was a no show in the playoffs last year. Not sure if it’s the locker room stuff, or some LBI (as Nucks fans speculate). Basically we’d be re-running the Kuzy Experience: a soft, mercurial 1C.

Still, I can see VAN badly losing any potential EP trade in the long run. Given their ages, it’s probably Miller who gets shipped out, if anything.

EP for Strome + Sandin/Fever is interesting as it’s exactly what VAN wants. Would probably gut our locker room though.

Agreed. It would be a disaster to sign Pettersson. He isn't durable and just look at how his game has fallen off a cliff because he can't get along with a teammate. That is a red flag I wouldn't go near. It literally tells you the guy doesn't have the character.

He currently isn't worth that contract - 8 years at 11.6 mill - f*** that

There is another important thing with Strome in addition to way outplaying his contract. he has become a part of the new leadership team with OV, JC74, and Wilson. Bunch of other leaders in there too, but I’d put Strome as top 4. JC6 could enter that group with an extension.

It’s kinda amazing Sprong is on his 7th team or whatever number it is. All he needs to do is improve his defense a tiny bit to the point that he isn’t a massive liability and he’ll be a useful 4th line scorer. But no.

Yea, his overall demeanor on the bench and the way he scores clutch goals - he’s a gamer, who hates to lose. In interviews he’s got a very affable, Oshie-like vibe about him. Seems like he’s an important part of the locker room and its culture. I could def see him wearing the A, if and when Tommy gets the C.

I have to believe there's something else going on for all those teams to just dump him even when he's producing offense.
