KK….former #2OA, in his 6th season….career season highs of 18g and 40 pts, 2 years ago, trending down….massive BUST. They should be happy with the draft picks lol…
Wow - for some reason I thought he was a 2nd round pick, not 2nd OVERALL.

He really has been underwhelming in that case.

Edit: I think he should improve playing for Seattle. But they do indeed have a lot of middle 6 forwards on that team.

He hit 40 pts once! 2 years ago lol….bust. This is just another PoolParty-type guy…

Good trade for Seattle right now of course..they are a bad team with cap room and ice time for mediocrity.

It’s addition by subtraction for the Rangers. Bust + malcontent=untenable. I expect some more moves to be honest.

Welp, bookmarked your post. Let's see how he does in Seattle. The pedigree is there, maybe under utilized, or whatever...I don't watch enough Rags games to have any insight on how he's been treated except the last 2 weeks. Maybe square peg - round hole over there?

You know it has to be bad if he went public with it. Given what has transpired over there, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

6th season…his benefit of the doubt has expired.

That was a mind-numbingly stupid hit by Rempe. It would so obviously be boarding to begin with, and then he put the elbow up on top of that.

For Rempe, the end is near. 6-8 now and the next time it's double that. Time after that it's 20+ and KHL-bound likely.

I "miss" the countless Leaf fans bragging how fast Matthews would hit 900+ with countless 70+ goal seasons disregarding the fact that he had missed more games than Ovechkin in 1/3 the time
When you think about how the Chicago fans roared Ovie's name when he hit 800, even as he embarrassed their team, it's clear real hockey fans know and appreciate the magic of his run. Those Leafs fans are just so jealous. They have the biggest market but no nice things.

He can go straight to LNAH and fight other goons. I doubt any KHL team would sign a player only good for injuring others.

The Rangers are godawful. The East seems to be full of really mediocre teams this year.

This is exactly why nobody here should be getting too spun up over Rempe. Wilson continued to develop his game and became a better player and a smarter hitter. Can Rempe? We’ll see.
5 points in 18 AHL games Matt Rempe? Six minutes per NHL game Matt Rempe? There's no comparison between the two.

He's awkward white Ryan Reaves. He's John Scott. He's a taller but significantly less effective Zac Rinaldo. Had he the capacity to play smarter and more in control I think he already would have managed it. He's not getting suspended in the AHL so it's not like he's a complete animal. But it's just like he gets to the show and it's all adrenaline-fueled recklessness. It doesn't seem like he's got the capacity to pick his spots. Again, not like he's on the ice much to suggest there's legit substance to his game outside of just running around.

I had this thought elsewhere, but figure it fits the topic; on a macro level I kind of feel bad for Rempe.

I'm not gonna pretend like the hits he's made are justified, or that he didn't deserve the suspension (probably more), but I feel bad for him that he's probably in the worst possible spot to properly develop. Laviolette, and his style of play, is 1000% going to reinforce all of Rempe's worst tendencies. The New York Rangers as an organization top to bottom are going to continue to push him into being a bid dumb idiot on the ice because they were mind broken by Tom Wilson's existence, and that is going to lead to the end of Rempe's NHL dream.

Tom Wilson was a much worse skater and just as big and dumb his first year or two here but he luckily had a staff and organization that actually believed in him and put in the effort to turn him into great NHL player.

Now, I don't think Rempe has the innate talent to be a Wilson level player, I think he's far from that, but he has enough skill to probably carve out a bottom 6 role as a heavy defender if he had landed in an organization that wanted him to be something more then their version of what they think Tom Wilson is.

I don't think NYR is telling Rempe to go out there and be dumb. They haven't exactly gone out and added anyone else that plays that game so I'm not sure it's such a central fixation. They could have kept him on the main roster all season but haven't...because he's not ready to play a consistent fourth-line game. They needed a spark and, well, that's what they got.

He made the decision to train with Laraque in the off-season IINM. If he wanted to be known as something more he could have trained and applied himself more in other directions instead. Certainly there are fighting tips for him to learn to be effective against mature NHL heavies. But he's got to be available first to play that niche role and a lot comes down to self-awareness. Self-awareness of his strength/frame and how to apply it maximally within the lines. He can't just go out there, run around and blow dudes up. But that seems to be the extent of his thought process for the most part. Hard to expect him to go from that to...something else more capable.

It can happen but it's not like Tom Wilson stepped into the league and acted that way as a teenager. Wilson wasn't suspended until the pre-season of his fourth season. He knew better by then...and still did it. But he also had value in other areas and Rempe doesn't really. He's unlikely to ever kill penalties. Unlikely to average 10 minutes a game barring considerable maturation. Can happen...but it's a different sort of arc.

devils are a much better team than the rags but still they shouldn’t be beating them this badly. This is your arch rival. Have some pride.

Wouldn’t be surprised if this is what gets Lavi gone.
