I can’t believe the Caps actually ran with Samsonov and Vanecek for a few seasons while they were cup contenders. What a waste.
Lundqvist was bought out by the Rangers because his game had declined dramatically. He was a cheap option with vast experience. They were forced to. We did have Henrik Lundqvist on payroll until he had to retire because of a heart issue.
He would have made a big difference.

It probably would have gone like all the other old legends in their last years. I’m thinking of Kovalchuk here, Thornton in Toronto, Perry for the last 5 years, Quick is doing okay in New York as a backup, etc.
I’m not saying it was a bad signing, but it was a long shot that he was gonna be a good starter. Big name players past their prime is fools gold, if you expect a lot.
You’re quickly moving the goalposts. We were talking about competing for cups.He wasn't supposed to be the starter. I didn't expect a lot from Hank except a solid vet back-up with an astounding resume. His mentorship and experience would of helped the 2 inexperienced unproven goalies.
Lundqvist's game 'dramatically declining' to .905 SV % in his last season with the Rags? haha Also, attaching a stigma to him because he was 'bought out by the Rangers' holds zero weight. That org f'n sucks at talent management. Look at what they've done in the past 5 years and the scandal going on the past 2 weeks. They're a joke.
ps Quick just doing 'ok' this season with a .936 SV %. (only 7 games played but 'ok'?) Uhhhhhh, no.
I ain't moving shit. I didn't say 'saved' Caps seasons. Did I? No. I said he would of made a big difference. As in, improved our goal tending over what we got from SS and VV.You’re quickly moving the goalposts. We were talking about competing for cups.
Maybe his mentorship would have helped Sammy, and Vanacek would have been in Hershey. But Sammy and Vanacek have been bouncing around for a few years now. It may just be an ability issue, not everyone can be starter.
I’d say the one the Rangers have proven to do well is find elite goalies. And given Lundqvist retired the very next season indicates something was there.
Yes Quick is a great backup. Great backups aren’t the team saviours like the Hall of Famer Quick we saw in LA. It’s all relative I guess. Quicks best days are behind him is the point.
I’ll say it again. Caps wasted cup contending years on Sammy and Vanacek. Your idea that Lundqvist is a goalie whisperer who could have saved the Caps seasons is extremely optimistic.
Perhaps. Goalies are not the same though, as skaters.Lundqvist was bought out by the Rangers because his game had declined dramatically. He was a cheap option with vast experience.

Yea it could’ve been, it’s a shame we didn’t get to find out. I always loved watching Lundqvist, except when he was going god mode against us.Perhaps. Goalies are not the same though, as skaters.
Could’ve been a great story. But alas it all doesn’t matter.
Only thing I mentioned was on the Ovy thread, and I laughed at posters trying to torpedo him. There's been way too much Caps chest thumping on the NHL forum over the past few days.
Alot of them dont like us and talk shit all the time. They can take some when we are hot. There's been way too much Caps chest thumping on the NHL forum over the past few days.
They’re gonna make a trade….ship someone to spike the room. The Rangers down 2-0 to the Devils midway through the first, at home. Have to imagine something has to budge if they don’t get it together soon.
Trochek, Zib, Panarin, Kreider, Reilly Smith, and Trouba all have full or partial NMC/NTC clauses, so it’ll be hard to ship a core player out, and it’ll be doubly hard to recoup any real value. That’s roughly half of their cap space tied up to those six guys; it’s their four highest paid forwards and their second highest paid defenseman. This is the crew they burned the boats with, so to speak. Have to wonder if Lavi bites the bullet first since Drury can’t control if other teams will take his players or not but he can push the “Eject Coach in case of emergency” button. They’re gonna make a trade….ship someone to spike the room.
Now 5-1. Yikes. Yea, I dunno who they can move that has value (and will waive). I don’t think a new coach helps. Their D corps is just terrible. No PMD outside of Fox, so they can’t get out of their zone. And pretty bad at the whole “defense” thing too, so it’s just Igor facing HDCs all night.Trochek, Zib, Panarin, Kreider, Reilly Smith, and Trouba all have full or partial NMC/NTC clauses, so it’ll be hard to ship a core player out, and it’ll be doubly hard to recoup any real value. You gotta love to see it! Just makes me all giggly. Maybe even better than watching the Pens collapse. Probably because the Pens are just terrible and not a threat at all. Lavi is going to have to go. They have talent.Their team defense is atrocious. They give up so many chances - they almost gave Saturday’s game away to the Habs, but for an idiotic O zone penalty by one of their forwards. Shesterkin has covered up for them for a couple of years and now he’s just kinda ordinary and their defense is worse. They got problems.
3-0 Devils now
Whoops - 4-0.
