Sullivan is fired for sure if the Pens lose again tonight.
The players have quit on him... even Crosby. I don't think Sullivan is necessarily a bad coach, but he is way past his expiration date in Pittsburgh. That team needs a new direction, and he isn't the one who can give it to them. Although, even if they do fire him, the Pens have much bigger systemic issues. They have no cap space, very few tradable assets, and not many promising young prospects. Changing the coach is about all they can realistically do. That may give them a temporary bump, but it does nothing to change the overall downward trajectory of the organization.
It's mind boggling that some people keep saying that the Caps are only making moves to help Ovie get the record and yet the Pens get no criticism of how poorly they have been managed in the twilight of Crosby and Malkin's career. By comparison, BMac has done a masterful job of retooling his team and setting us up for the future.
