Pens will leapfrog the Caps after this game and will lead them by a point albeit having played one more game than Washington. Pretty epic collapse losing five in a row when all they needed to do was tread water and go .500 to comfortably lock up a playoff berth.

It's amusing actually. They traded a clutch player to a rival team and the trade is working for both teams. Bunting is scoring for the Pens and they find ways to win. Meanwhile with the Pens fans they cry about Sullivan and how bad their team is while fighting for a spot. We have a guy in Patches that wouldn't waive his NTC and his error cost the game against the Canes last night. Patches taught me last last night we don't need anymore reclamation projects. I would wager Patches would produce on the Pens. For the record, I hate the Pens.

We’ve lost 5 in a row in the most important stretch, guys like Protas are pointless in the last 10, no idea why we resigned that dude. And obviously there are others but when Ovechkin is the only dude making it happen they don’t deserve to be in the playoffs. I loved seeing Strome get mad and break his stick, you can tell he wants to get into the postseason.

I hate Pittsburgh but you have to give them credit for winning games when it matters, they almost blew a 4-1 lead but managed to win. Imagine if we played TBL afternoon game today we would have got smoked.
Bolts never do well against the Pens, and that includes when they have faced each other in the playoffs. The other East teams haven't grabbed hold of Metro 3rd/WC2 spots, so the Pens have jumped in for the moment. Will they hold on(it wouldn't shock me)? I don't want them in because then the NHL media coverage will shove Crosby this n that into all NHL our faces! What we all seen from the past years, the league helps the Pens whether they tank for the #1 pick(Crosby) or to get into the playoffs(big money maker for the league)!

I’d wager the Pens will have a very good chance to upset whomever they played, were they to make it.

That would be so……on brand

It’s the Isles that are quietly “doing their thing”, and here we are. They piss me off. We need Trotz’s new/old team to do us a solid and help his old team against his other old team.

Amirite?

Protas .. his contract not looking good..neither is top line Tom's.

You have “no idea” why they resigned Protas? Really?

How in the world are some of you so bent out of shape about losing with what is, at this point, house money? I swear even if they made it some people would complain when they lose about how it’s the worst built playoff team they’ve ever seen.

They aren’t supposed to be here. It was looking bad at the start of the season, and they sold on top of that. Awful goal differential being boosted by an arguably unsustainable record in close games.

The ride’s been fun and March was nice but it’s time to come back to reality a little and look at this for what it is.

At least the ESPN+ sub wasn't a waste. March was fun!

Nobody said making the playoffs would be a walk in the park. They had a great run that allowed them back into playoff contention. But we're not 2022-23 Bruins to sustain that run for an entire RS.

The team is never as bad as it seems on a cold streak and never as good as it seems on a hot streak. We gave more reponsibilities to CMM and Protas, play 2 full rookies in Lapierre and Miroshnichenko in pretty important roles, and also many journeyman, fringe NHL level veterans under a rookie coach. When they also miss their best RWs, it's easy to give ground to 2 teams on 4-game win streaks. Which are bound to end soon as well. We are just 1 point away from WC2 and 3 points behind M3 with a game in hand, and have already had a long losing streak.

It's still a developmental season, but I like their chances for the playoffs.

Shitty night for the Playoff odds, as expected. But despite everything they still control their own fate.

As of where we'd pick if we missed, it was an interesting night.

+ Pittspurgh won.
+ Islanders won.
+ Devils won.
+ Blues atleast picked up a point (tied late against the Sharks and lost in OT lol).
- Flyers lost.
- Wild lost.
- Flames lost.

They are free-falling right now and if they keep playing like they have played recently, we'd propably still look at top-12 pick. Top-10 is a stretch, Devils are 4 points back but they only have 5 games left to Caps 6. Sabres as of now would pick 11th and they are 3 points back but only 1 less game left. Caps visit the Sabres again next week though.

Not sure why that’s such a jarring comment, I don’t really care that much that they’re probably missing the playoffs. Protas just seemed like an overpay to me, he’s a good passer but never shoots the puck and doesn’t use his size. He could have been had for cheaper imo, I wish he would have stepped up during the most important stretch after getting paid is all I meant.

They paid him for what they expect him to be in the future. You are basing everything on current play. He has potential and size to develop into a player that will be worth this salary or hopefully will even be a bargain.

I get that, I’m just saying I think it was too soon for a guy that imo hasn’t shown that much. It’s all good, these deals can work for us or backfire. I’m sure Carolina is not happy with that Kotkaniemi contract right now, obviously it’s not as bad as that but still. Ill
Shut up about it lol

I don't get it. He's getting paid like a 3rd liner. He has produced like a 3rd liner. He's also improved each season. Even if this is who he is, he's going to be paid accordingly.

Weird hill to die on.

The Protas contract was just fine. Everyone bitches about all the vets and play the youth. This is what you get with youth. Consistency comes with experience.

Will be interesting to see if we now have more appetite for signing a top 6 vet (under 30 please). This will come at expense of Miro playing in Hershey again next year. It is either going to be Miro + Leonard and maybe a depth signing. Or one of those two and top 6 (and probably still a depth guy). Depth guy could be Sutter.

I’m fine starting with both Miro and Leonard in the top 9 next year. Assume Oshie bumps down to 4RW.

We should make a huge splash defensively.
