Some big turnarounds this season. Seattle much improved, Jersey unbelievable. Dallas really did well from that coaching change. Winnipeg better than expected. Boston - you hate to see it.

This is a bad decision and Washington should claim him.

He hasn't shown much offensively so far in the NHL, but he's young enough and his pedigree is strong enough where I'd certainly take a flyer on him. And it seems like Nashville has done the same thing with him as Washington has done with McMichael, so plenty of potential to improve one would think.

Kind of doubt he falls to Washington though.

Also he's Finnish.

He’s really strong defensively which is why I think Washington would be interested. And he has a lethal shot. Washington is playing better though so I doubt they want to rock the boat.

He is the type of guy you can store away in Hershey though and compete for a spot next year at the latest. With the way Washington players are getting injured you'd figure he'd get a shot soon.

His defensive metrics are indeed impressive. I'd certainly like to see them put a claim in.

Why would Nashville let Washington assign Tolvanen to Hershey? He's a waiver claim, he either has to stay in the NHL or be exposed to waivers to be sent to the AHL. At which point Nashville would reclaim him and assign him to their AHL team (if no other team puts in a claim).

Because I was very mistaken on the waiver rules!

(Though I do think if Washington is the only one to claim him they could assign him directly to Hershey. Not a likely scenario though.) This is incorrect, and I have brought great shame to my family.

I'd still claim him and have him take NAK's roster spot, and have him compete for Oshie's spot that will be available in ~3-5 games.

Even if Washington is the only one to claim him, they cannot assign him directly to Hershey. They would have to expose him to waivers again, at which point Nashville could put in a claim. The point of waivers is to stop teams for hoarding NHL-capable talent in the minor leagues, not for teams to poach each other's AHL players.

There's a period of time in which waiver claims use the past season's standings, but I'm pretty sure that's already concluded. Too lazy to look it up, though.

edit - I ended up looking it up. The date is Nov 1, so we are long past it

So it's first in first served then, I guess? After Nov 1st?

After Nov 1 is inverse of current standings correct? Then if you claim someone doesn’t that move you to the bottom of the list?

Like when we signed kubel that put us at 32 until another team claims someone right? Or am I completely making this up?

Was surprised 22 teams passed on him. But Caps no longer need warm bodies at forward. We have two extras sitting every night and several that can come up if needed. Now a defenseman might be interesting.

Tolvanen has potential to be much more than a warm body.

Okay so this hit on Hronek by Reaves - there's a main board thread about it. A lot of people saying it's a clean hit but seriously?? Hronek isn't looking but so what? Reaves hits him in the head / face before anywhere else. Is it just me or is it HF Boards is full of idiots?? (I guess both can be true lol).

That is a straight up hit to the head. It’s also avoidable. Two of the main criteria when DoPS looks at. He will get suspended for this.

Reeves (not Wilson) is the kind of player the NHL doesn’t want in the league. Brings no value other than fighting and trying to hurt people.

Yep pretty much what I thought as well. You can actually see Reave's drives himself upward at the last second to elevate the hit.

Reaves is a POS. Would be happy if he never played again.

More importantly —

Shame Reaves is tarnishing those Uni’s. Those are sweet
