I read some of the GDT for the Toronto / Kings game and was amused to see them defending Sammy for being "hung out to dry" by his team mates. Did we used to make those excuses for him in the early days before we figured out how bad he was??

I watched the highlights of that game, he got beat high glove on either 3 or all 4 goals, and never brought his mitt up close to where the puck was. Same old Sammy.

And lost his stick on two of the goals. Things are brutal in Toronto and it's only a matter of time before the pressure goes on Sammy. He couldn't cope with it when he was a Cap so I don't know how he will manage with the Leafs.

It is really ironic: guy who is questionable under pressure signs with one of the most unforgiving and demanding fanbases in the league

Yes.

But his expectations are already low in Toronto. He's being paid pennies. Also there are underperforming core players all over the line-up.

In terms of high-danger chances they were 26-17 to Leafs and expected goals 4.5 to 3.03. So bigger issues in scoring department but Samsonov handily outplayed.

Not the same thing, but, cute…

Everybody has that player they thought was going to be a star and then for whatever reason they never panned out. Mine was Andreas Athanasiou. One of the fastest skaters in the world with elite puck handling skills and a good shot he just never used enough, I aways thought he was going to break out but it never really happened. This goal though, chef’s kiss.

I'm curious, what did Sun Tzu have to say about xGFAR/60 in all situations?

Guy is blazing fast and can flash some serious skill. And he's on his 4th team in 4 seasons. Seems like a guy who might drive your standard issue NHL coach bonkers.

Absolutely no help on the out of town scoreboard last night but the Pens did blow a 5-2 lead and lost their fifth straight so there’s that.

In sadder news, I watched the third period of PIT/BOS and Swayman suffered what looked like a horrible knee injury. Would be shocked if he’s not out for a while. His knee bent backwards. But then again, goalies are like real life Gumbys so maybe he’s fine.

We either miss the playoffs by a bit or get bounced first round so out of town scoreboard doesn't matter at all to me, minus seeing the Pens lose.

most of the East is chaos, many of the top teams basically right where we are, top teams underperforming, some bubble teams looking great so far (NJ/BUF), and lotto PHI surprising all

so far looks like that "Parity" is real this year, there won't be separation like last year, and maybe 94/95 could be the magic number to get in, still super early but don't have the feeling there will be 8 hitting 100 pts

(below order based more-or-less on pre-season consensus predictions)
Atlantic "Top 3"
TOR 4-4-2
FLA 5-4-1
TBL 6-4-0

We're 2pts off the Metro lead. If we hold on and win those last 2 games we're right up there.

It's too early to make a call. Typically you don't know anything until December.

Precisely. Caps also played well against the thee of the two top powers in the NHL imho (Vegas and Carolina) with key players out. They can play anybody when their head is in the game and healthy. It's a long road.

It is kind of funny how Washington and Pittsburgh have mirrored each other over the past 20 years.

Also the Sabres are a good story, but they’re no New Jersey Devils! A lot of puck luck on their side this season.

I love watching the Sabers. Can't wait for Protas to get to Tage Thompson level. That Buffalo at Edmonton game was super entertaining too.

Thanks to TNT for showing BUF/PIT nationally, was enjoyable to watch PIT blow another multi-goal lead
Geno dogging it on the icing to get beat by ol' Zemgus and then 5 Pens back but no one bothering to get near the crease to block a shot and let in the EN dagger, LOL

BUF's an entertaining watch
