"Let me make something really clear: We're coming back to play this season because we think it's important for the game, because our fans and our players want us to, and it may give people -- particularly in isolation, or where there are curfews -- a sense of normalcy and something to do," Bettman told reporters in a video call on Monday. "It would be cheaper for us to shut the doors and not play. We're going to lose more money, at the club level and the league level, by playing than by not playing."
Regarding the losses, Bettman said: "The magnitude of the loss starts with a B. We're out of the M range and into the B."

I think the ONLY reason we are getting a hockey season is because the league is terrified of how many fans they will lose if they don't go ahead. Obviously less than ideal, but I can see their point of view and I think they need to do this (especially as the other major sports didn't opt to skip a season).

Also the American national TV deal that the NHL has with NBC the past 10 years concludes after this season and is up for renewal. A bad new contract with NBC (or any other network) could cripple the league for decades.

Agreed. Between bubble hockey, political BS, Cherry and Milburry getting canned for absolutely nothing and everything else in between i can say with confidence that my interest in hockey has gone down significantly. Usually im pumped for the start of the season but this time around i honestly do not care much. But if there was not season at all then i would loose my interest even more. I hope the season rolls along and it gets exciting again.

Basically my thoughts as well like there plenty of somewhat interesting hockey people or former players and coaches that could do their jobs.

I don’t really care who does the color or analysis or intermission reports, but it doesn’t seem to be an area where they would lack qualified candidates

I am not a fan of Cherry and certainly not a fan of Milburry. My feelings towards their firings come from resentment towards the fact that they got fired due to the disgusting pc culture that warped the entire world it seems. Especially Millbury. Its a joke what happened to him.

Cancel Culture is real. He’s a dinosaur and dinosaurs must adapt or meet their own extinction.

Social media has fostered this weaponization of opinion. It’s way more simple for businesses to fire someone today , even if that someone is a founder or CEO, than it is to try and sway an angry mob online and quickly hurt your entire company.

Milbury's list of non PC offenses was well documented and very long, way before this last one that sunk him, and he just wasn't that good at his job - I really like Milbury, said no one ever. It could easily be said it was a joke that he lasted as long as he did. He got way more chances to just not say stupid shit, than most TV personalities do, and he couldn't do it.
