GDT: NHL Stadium Series | Detroit @ Columbus | 6 PM EST

Larkin redeemed himself after the snarky comment about Ohio Stadium earlier. His comments were welcome and appropriate.
I read Larkin’s earlier comments but didn’t hear him or see him deliver them. Someone elsewhere said they were delivered in a manner that was clearly tongue-in-cheek / playful, not mean/spiteful. He’s a Michigan guy captaining the opposing team. I wouldn’t read too much into them.

I read his first remark as playfully snarky, but his follow up comments were more appropriate.

Just home from the game. What an evening! Ugly game except for the win but that’s a thing where maybe “good teams know how to win even when they’re not at their best”?

Atmosphere was great - the crowd really brought it. And that ending. I wonder if people will ever stop being surprised that Columbus kicks ass at this stuff.

Toes are ok now. Lower back hopefully by morning.

Well done, boys!
Low back still NOT ok...standing for entire game in 26AA was not conducive to staying warm or for back pain...but the entire section stood, so not much choice! WAH!!!! It was great to be part of the event. Will appreciate seats in NWA so much more now, though!!!!! lol.

Don't get me wrong, top 3 Jackets game I have ever been to, but it felt like the Jackets had nothing to do with it. It felt to me like it was run by and for ESPN and OSU.

No Leo.
Was there even a goal horn?
There should have been alumni pumping up the crowd.
C-B-J should have been flashed on the screen to pump up the crowd.
How about a John-ny Hock-ey chant led from the screens? No, absolutely nothing.
No Mike Todd. I know some may be burned out on him, but he is part of Blue Jackets history and deserved to do that instead of sparkly show guy who has no idea who the home team was. The guy they got sucked.
No CBJ pump up between play, just OSU cheerleaders, OSU dance team, OSU band and announcer who knew morning about the Jackets.

I know I am an old man yelling at clouds. I am ecstatic that the Jackets somehow won that game. It was fantastic.
There was a bit too much OSU and no doubt ESPN had their hands on delayed start time and some gamre production issues. Agree with many of your comments, disagree with a few.

No Leo.
-Not sure that 70,000 of the 94,751 know who Leo is...but I missed him too!
Given the number of Red Wing fans and first-time hockey game attendees,
any LEO! response would have been lost.

Was there even a goal horn?
-No- and we would not have heard it anyway. Supposedly the cannon had 10X load,
and supposedly some techy way of amping up the audio,
but it was not very loud from where we sat.
The 'Shoe is just a HUGE place compared to NWA, especially for sound.

There should have been alumni pumping up the crowd.
C-B-J should have been flashed on the screen to pump up the crowd.
-Would have been nice to have alumni on the video board, but not a big deal.
Absolutely agree that the video board was underutilized during stoppage of play.
It was difficult to get any unified chant/cheer due to the size of the 'Shoe -
what started in the South stands didn't reach half the stadium - delayed timing.
That's why O-H-I-O is about the only cheer that works for the entire crowd,
even at Buckeye football games.
However, I was happy they did not use video board for chant-leading during the game because
I watched 85% of the game on the video board, as our seats in 26AA, row 10
made actually seeing much of the action on the ice next to impossible. Too low.
I am thrilled to have been there for the event/spectacle, but as a place to watch
a hockey game, not so much. Now, If I had CBJWerenski's seats, I might feel differently!

How about a John-ny Hock-ey chant led from the screens? No, absolutely nothing.
-Same comment as above - agreed needed to be on video board during play stoppages.
Several attempts to start that chant made in and around our section -
just too big a venue to get traction for chanting other than via video board.
Same thing happens at Crew games - fans that "know" join in with the Nordecke, but fans that
don't KNOW the chants/songs are completely lost.

No Mike Todd. I know some may be burned out on him, but he is part of Blue Jackets history and deserved to do that instead of sparkly show guy who has no idea who the home team was. The guy they got sucked.
-Agree that the doofus they used as MC sucked, but Mike Todd was not missed by this fan.

No CBJ pump up between play, just OSU cheerleaders, OSU dance team, OSU band and announcer who knew morning about the Jackets.
-The video board would have been the only way to change that, to start a "CBJ" chant.
It was different and at times difficult to mesh CBJ and OSU...but there had to be some OSU stuff -
it was the 'Shoe after all. Too much OSU, but it didn't offend me, jus got lost amidst the 94,751.

Here's to hoping this one-off experience (yes, another will happen but it will be years) creates another 30,000+ CBJ fans. A large number of the crowd have been casual CBJ fans, it at all. A large group in our section - 1st game ever. That one night of celebrating hockey, CBJ, Johnny, and yes, OSU-CBJ joint venture will hopefully make SOR at NWA a more common occurrence in Oct/Nov and not just during holidays or PO chase. And if you get them to NWA just one time, they will come back!

It felt like every other second it was "OSU this, OSU that" to the point where I don't feel it would be unjust to think CBJ wasn't the main attraction. More like a 50/50 or 60/40 split.

With that said, I'm forever grateful that the game happened at all to begin with, that I had the opportunity to attend, and if this level of OSU involvement was what it took for it to happen -- so be it. I can certainly accept it for the greater good of what last night was and meant.. 94,000+ of CBJ/DET/OSU fans in one place sharing their appreciation for the sport of hockey on a COLD @$$ night!!!
You’ve basically nailed my sentiment nearly to a tee. Fun night and great showcase of Cbus/the CBJ so I’m appreciative OSU didn’t say no. (I also thought the band playing the goal song was a very nice touch.)

But at the same time, OSU was paid a substantial sum by the NHL/CBJ to rent out Ohio Stadium at a time when it otherwise would be completely vacant/unused anyway. And there was quite a lot of OSU content/emphasis. I was expecting some (and there should’ve been some) but my guess is it was the most “integrated” of host-tenant themes in NHL outdoor game history (including some other iconic venues/hosts like Wrigley, Fenway, Soldier Field, Michigan Stadium and ND Stadium). So I’m not sure if it was completely altruistic, out of the goodness of OSU’s hearts for the benefit of the 614 sporting world.

But ultimately I’m cool with that anyway. I want OSU and CBJ to play nice in the sandbox, but I’m not an OSU fan (and I think there are a large minority of CBJ fans who also aren’t) so I’m cool with a distinction/separation between the two (and actually prefer it, since I don’t want a “you have to be an OSU fan to be a CBJ fan” aura), as long as they’re not fighting with each other.

Certainly for local CBJ fans who buy tickets there would be a lot of overlap. But among the broader fanbase, well represented here on HF, many of us moved away from the area a long time ago (like me) or never lived in the area. When you combine that with the local non-OSU-fans, I think the majority of the CBJ fanbase are not interested in OSU at all.

I haven't given OSU a thought since Eddie George.

This is a really funny post because I was actually a huge OSU fan as a kid until I went to college out of state at a different “football school”. And I was 4 years old when Eddie won the Heisman and he’s still my favorite athlete of all-time any sport.

I found the host online. His name is The Young Professor and he is available for weddings, sweet 16s, and bar mitzvahs. He has also done Flagler-Palm Coast High School Varsity and Junior Varsity Baseball (PA Announcer). He is also a professional wrestler manager.
Who hired this guy?
He also does the Savannah Bananas
