News Article: NHL Owner Rankings

I find it such a travesty that the two times this milennium we have lost in SC final is that the victors were respectively Carolina and Florida Buttman type non hockey market teams.

In fact in 2006 I was so ardently cheering for Buffalo and DISGUSTED that it was the Carolina Candycanes as SC opponent. haha I had such colorful things to say about it here I got in some trouble. At least with Buffalo as an opponent its a hockey market, longstanding team, and like Minny almost feels like a Canadian city.

Absolutely pathetic. Same organization that had to market to their 'fans' with free jerseys, free parking, four free concerts for $7 a game back in 2013 for season tickets in order to sell for a arena that had empty seats galore.

We could be the leafs..... actually never won a 3rd round as they did not exist in 67. Or the Canucks or the flames.... God it could be so much worse.
Weird how most of the hot places have great ownership.

I had the misfortune of sitting next to two of the very few Panther fans that made the trip here for Game 3. They were Panther season seat holders, and friendly respectable people that were no real problem.

The thing that burned me though is you could tell they just didn't really truly care the way we feel it in our bones and soul here. When the Panthers scored to go up 4-1 in the 2nd to effectively seal the game and the Cup, their celebrations would have been commensurate with a mundane mid-January game here. It's like they didn't realize the gravity of that goal. I'm a fairly understated person, but had the scenarios flipped and the Oilers scored to basically seal the series while I was at the game in Florida I probably would have come unglued. Would be the biggest goal of my life.

They were nice enough people so at the intermission I almost felt obligated to tell them "you know I've been waiting my whole life to see the Oilers win one and I haven't had it yet, and it may never come for all I know. If the Panthers finish this you need to really enjoy it." It's a temporary hobby for them while the Panthers are good, but they just don't truly care.

Yep, pretty much the difference between ours and their fanbase in a nutshell.

I still like Fansfirst for tickets. No extra bullshit random nonsense fees. Sites like Ticketmaster or STH can f*** off though.

I'm saving up for the 1st playoff game to watch live at least with my fiance since it'd be both our first time experiencing it. Won't be cheap, but fansfirst will surely still beat the other 2 crap sites or any other that yaps about "cheaper seats, come here to purchase" than see the price in USD. Yeah, never buying it from those sites, good try though!
You do realize the 100% of the tickets on FansFirst are from STH's right?

Describe SC championship as orgasmic, maybe they'd capture it then. Probably not.

Hey at least the Flyers fans that were in Edmonton in game 7, in 87 were thrilled and capturing all the edge, excitement, and anything could happen and that they could be seeing their club lift a cup. They got the moment. Everybody in attendance that series did. Made it all the more that it was exciting, fans of both clubs frothed into a frenzy. They were loud too, and brave enough. The whole time I'm thinking what fool Oilers fan sold their game 7 tickets to these Flyers fans? That and comeback win in Stars series were the most exciting moments I had at games.

Conversely in 85 when we beat the Flyers it felt like that club was already ready to fall. Oilers were too much. Was very exciting because the first time I was there in person to see cup win but it lacked the intensity of game in 87. That 85 club I swear it was the fastest team on ice I've ever seen. Only few players on other clubs could keep pace and on the whole no other team could.

Imo Katz is one of the best things to happen to our club. He initiated the team getting a building and he spends a lot of money on the team. It's a far cry from anyone we've had before

But is there owner or organization better than Edmonton or Toronto if we were to take the emotion out of it? Probably not.
What? Yes. Absolutely. Not sure about Toronto but Ottawa's owner is way way better than Katz.

Until Ottawa's owner butts in and picks a bust 1OV he isn't even in the conversation for worst. Katz has earned this

Why the Katz hate? Dude has clearly invested tons into the team and he spends to the cap, even above it, every year. He's also transformed and revitalized downtown Edmonton with the ice district. I mean yeah tickets are expensive but people are willing to pay, and if you don't wanna buy tickets just watch at home for free.
Because he's directly responsible for many of the terrible management hires that have plagued this organization during his tenure.

From the article:

It’s a little surprising to see the Oilers this far down the list, given they have a beautiful new building and a contending team, but Edmonton is called the city of champions for a reason. The lean years and managerial mistakes under previous front offices continue to not sit well with an educated fan base, even with their current superstar-led cast getting to within a win of a championship last season.

Fans in our survey lauded Katz’s willingness to spend (fourth best), but the Oilers finished 28th under organizational stability and 24th under treatment of the fan base, with many complaining about costs at the arena. So there’s still work to do to win over folks in the Alberta capital.

Fan perspective: “Since he has owned the Oilers, Daryl Katz has had something like seven different GMs and 11 different coaches. Unbelievable lack of organizational stability and long-term vision.”

“Katz is willing to spend but has made terrible decisions to date with management hirings. That has held the team back from winning a Cup with McDavid and Draisaitl.”

Any fan that complains of prices in Edmonton have never purchased anything outside of Edmonton lol

Katz has been prob the best owner in the NHL for the last dozen years, look what he has done for this team.
