NHL/NHLPA announce Salary Cap increases for the next 3 seasons (2025-26: $95.5M, 2026-27: $104M, 2027-28: $113.5M)

They need to increase ELC salary. Its only risen 100k Since 2005, and hasn't increased since 2012.

Rookies getting paid the same under a 60 million cap as under a 110 million cap is insane. Going to be a lot of eyepopping deals for 3rd/4th liners trying to reach the floor.
The ELC salary will be specified in the new CBA and is likely to go up every two or three years as it has in past CBAs.

Incidentally, when the NHL salary cap was 59.4M (in 2010-2011, the closest it has been to 60M), the league minimum was 500K. Today, the league minimum is 775K. Next year's league minimum is also scheduled to be 775K, but I suppose they could make a side agreement to change it or I guess it's possible that if the new CBA is done by June, they could agree to start playing under it next yeat in which case it would define the league minimum.

NHLPA is going to need to calculate contracts that can inflate with cap increases so they reflect a % of the salary cap in the next CBA. These jumps are massive.

Figured this was coming. Bettman is scheduled to retire in a "few years" and the current CBA expires before the 26/27 season. As we all know, Bettman is about parity so he can grow the game and bring NHL teams to various cities.

Parity will be a huge focus of Bettman before he retires and that happens after the next CBA. I bet you the next CBA will be a longer term as well.

Posting charts of revenue from private businesses is the dumbest thing ever. No one knows the real numbers

JPMorgan and Forbes are well known dummies my bad guys. :eyeroll:

It's wierd they didn't include an escalator to the ELC in the 2012 CBA like they did in the 2005 CBA.

Wouldn't shock me at all if the current players are fine to screw over their not current union members and future replacements and not increase the ELC in the next ELC.

I don't think the owners would be very willing to accept that unless the players make some kind of big concession.

I'm failing to see how this is a good thing as a fan other than the fact that teams will have more cap space. I paid around $9 for a shitty hot dog at an oilers game last week, so if Canadian teams have to pay over $150 million CAD to ice a roster what is that hot dog gonna cost me in the future???

I always felt contracts should be % of cap. That makes it fair to the team and player IMO. Maybe each team has 10 (% of cap contracts) and the rest of them are locked in deals but they are non core parts. It's the 8 year terms that makes is unfair at times. Habs will have a very good contract with Suzuki and when he is done that, you better bet his agent is looking to get that max bloated next deal.

McDavid could negotiate a 15% share for example. Cap goes up, salary goes up. Cap goes, down, salary goes down.

This is a simple shock due to Covid and future inflation. We should be at $95M today but Covid derailed it. NHLPA ended up with an outstanding balance that has been paid off last season.

Then add Seattle and the difference in revenue Utah is created vs Arizona.

This is a bigger deal than the top end of the cap. There are going to be a lot of teams that are going to have to spend a ton of money over the next few years to get close to the floor.
These numers are wrong. They were calaculated as 85% of the upper limit instead of 85% of the midpoint. The correct numbers are given in Seravalli's tweet: 70.6, 76.9, and 83.9.

Yup! I wonder how they factored that in their new projections? Do they have a extension that is close to being announced? I know Bettman was in talks with Sportsnet since Nov/Dec
What i know is that Rogers exclusive window with NHL, to talk about new deal, started 1 January and was 2 months I think.
