The NHL doesn't actually care, so this was always going to happen once they could let enough time pass for feelings to either die down or people to have other things to worry about more.Someone's going to have to reset their "it's been X days since we've been labeled a scumbag organization" sign to zero.
He was always good enough that eventually somewhere was going to give him another chance provided he's kept his nose clean and (hopefully) demonstrated that he actually understands that what he did was horrendously wrong and is properly making amends for it. But for it to come this quickly, right back at the NHL level, and during the trial that's going on right now involving NHL players is gallingly, frustratingly tone deaf.

Yes, it's absolutely tone deaf and offensive (and would be even without the trial), but, frankly, the sort of people who work in decision-making roles in professional sports are largely selfish scumbags.
