The Slavin extension with Carolina is rumored to be 8×$6.5M AAV. I posted it here because it clearly seems like, with Slavin's extension starting at age-31, the Canes were well aware of the worst-case Vlasic possibility and designed the extension to have a low enough cap hit relative to the overall cap in order to mitigate the risk. Interesting to see a front office taking a lesson from a past mistake from another franchise and also interesting to see the player's side OK with this and signing off on it.

Part of it is a safety issue.

At least one linesperson has been cut by skates of players sitting on boards.

The players got notified this past season of the change in season, so now it's officially changed.

So maybe not as much as you might think.
