So the league sacrificed Tim Peel a bit earlier than he planned to retire (april 24th?) from that hot mic incident.
But will now probably lose his pension or whatever kind of retirement things refs get from the league and union.

Sucks for peel if that's the case, league gets off.But will now probably lose his pension or whatever kind of retirement things refs get from the league and union.
The only warning I see is don't get caught with a hot mic.
They actually didn't ban Peel but forced him into early retirement, by about a couple of months.
Yea, basically. Trying to keep whatever little respectability this terrible league still has.Knew the league would bury it. Dumping it all on Peel, an outgoing ref, is their way of saying it’s an isolated incident and that the problem is resolved.
Especially when the commissioner’s head explodes and he sends 2 reffing crews home. I’d have to imagine that’ll change how a ref consciously or subconsciously refs that team going forward.Yea, basically. Trying to keep whatever little respectability this terrible league still has.
Imagine using the argument that refs are human when they make bad calls, but not believing the same thing when people say they have biases.

I doubt it. With Peel getting an early vacation and his pension intact, this has all the makings of an optics move. If they didn't say anything after the 18-19 playoffs with two crews getting sent home after making defensible calls, they won't get involved now.Have to wonder if NHLOA might be doing something.
Not likely after signing whatever NDA secured his early retirement benefits.I am interested to see if Peel makes any sort of statement about the league condoning/promoting his behavior until it was caught on the mic.
Hopefully this will just be the tip of iceberg and if this really goes on as much as we all expect it does, will lead to some sort of change.
I’d venture to say there are more Peels than not.Now I see why the Sharks get grilled by penalties when playing Avs/Vegas/Blues
There's more Peel's in the league.
I would argue the league directs refs to be Peels.I’d venture to say there are more Peels than not.
This. It's definitely more of a systemic issue, rather than a few guys just hating certain teams for whatever reason independently.I would argue the league directs refs to be Peels.
