Decade and country? The US. 1900-1910. A time of wild change and innovation. A time when I could relentlessly mock William Jennings Bryan and his idiotic dumbass supporters right to all their faces.
Whoever is up is up
Defect's dumb ass already took that.
Stay in your lane kid
I'd like to make sure it's noted that I DID check and was sabotaged the spreadsheet.
Why is this the one non-Briere related thing you pick???Stay in your lane kid
That’s not a complaint about the keepers of the spreadsheet, to be clear.Noted.
Briere’s grandfather had a minor role in designing the flaps on the planeWhy is this the one non-Briere related thing you pick???

I just refuse to be associated with Defect or Beef “Defect Jr” Invictus as pick duplicators.
Quick hit here. In a place with unstable internet, so can't confirm in the spreadsheet, but I don't see it selected this round, anyway...

@DancingPanther, who gets to dance on his own a little further into autumn.
Weapons don't really fit the vibe we're going for all that well, so an angle shoot was needed.
This is the Heinkel He 113. For the time period, this was an unthinkable technological achievement. It was a front-line Super Fighter that set world speed records. It was sighted all over the European Theatre in offensive roles in places like Dunkirk. It was used defensively to stop Allied bombing runs. It was even pictured in the pages of respected British aviation publications such as The Aeroplane.
But the He 113 had one particular attribute that ultimately defined it. It didn't exist. It was just masterful propaganda.
Second pick coming after I get some food.
You chose salmon; it was only fair.Hello
Wait, BEEF chose salmon?You chose salmon; it was only fair.
I'm in the midst of tech week in rehearsals, so dropping this one quick. Can't find anything in the sheet that says someone else has taken this, which seems mind-boggling 25 rounds in.
Team Pet: Dragon
@ajgoal , fwoosh.
I promise I looked at the spreadsheet and I couldn't see him. I even spelled his name right when I searched, then wrong in case it was typo'd. I can't believe COLOMBO hasn't been picked in any phase yet? If he really hasn't he's now out TEAM DETECTIVE
What a great pick Sherlock Holmes was. For real. Gumshoe. Providence does it again.
@pit
Happy to help jojoThank you for saving me from myself. There is a Detective that I want to take, but having the Matlock + Columbo stranglehold over the Seniors market was tantalizing.
Marvel has been slop for a while nowThe glare is eating me alive.
We start the day with @ajgoal on the clock, @Asnito on deck, me on the lido deck, and Bigglesworth on the lido afterdeck. @JojoTheWhale can make up his pick whenever he has time.
I watched "Guardians of the Galaxy 3" last night. Without getting into spoilery details and everything, I'll just say this. The animal parts were amazingly touching, and I was good with the ending. But why in the whole holy f*** did they all spend the entire time yelling at each other? Holy f***. James Gunn is too good and steady to be letting something like that happen on his watch. I am trusting that it was a slip-up - like maybe he was hurrying to get through the film and get to D.C. - and isn't something that he will bring with him to the superior comic universe.
I'm genuinely starting to worry about the quality of storytelling at the minute - very basic, rudimentary things are turning to slop too often.
I'm going to ask for some grace from Cap here and allow me to simply choose Detective (Disco Elysium) instead of using the guy's real name because I don't want to ruin the game for anyone who still might pick it up.
Disco Elysium is an RPG. It has life bars like an RPG. The detective makes skill checks like an RPG. You solve puzzles like an RPG. You make dialogue choices like an RPG. But it has zero combat. It does have character stats like an RPG. Some, like Psyche and Physique, are familiar. But then you have stats such as Savoir Fare, Empathy, and Esprit de Corps. In many ways, it's the evolution of the Sierra point and click adventures of the 80s and 90s.
Make no mistake. This game is weird. Many people are going to bounce off of it at first sight of the dialogue boxes. There is famously a point at which, if you forego healing long enough and fail enough character checks, your Detective gives up. He doesn't die. Nothing dramatic happens. The main character simply says he's had enough of this and the game ends. This is a fairly typical interaction:
I am in no way a ~Lore Guy~ when it comes to video games. I play the game. I enjoy the game. With precious few exceptions, I do not give two shits about the characters or the worldbuilding. Disco Elysium made me laugh out loud multiple times. It made me invest emotionally in my Detective's journey. I needed to try different things not to see how the game handled them, but to see how the characters did.
If you haven't yet and think it might be up your alley, definitely give the game a try. If it's not, that's ok too. It's not trying to please everyone. That's no small part of why it's so successful in pleasing its target audience.
