I always love Chuck's picks, even when they are insane, but I also really love that pick from CelsiusFlyer88. That's why I love doing this - people always come up with cool ideas to satisfy the requirements of these categories.

We start the day with @GKJ on the clock, but @Asnito can also step up from the deck and go when he is ready. @BiggE is on the lido deck, and Toe is on the lido afterdeck.

We have a really difficult decision to make today. The Scrapheap C***s' game against the Los Angeles Kings starts at 4 p.m. Eastern, but that is also when the Fiesta Bowl - i.e., the national semifinal between TCU and Michigan - kicks off. What should we watch? What are we to do?

We start the day with @BiggE on the clock, @BigToe on deck, @Magua on the lido deck, and ajgoal on the lido afterdeck. This is our last day to patiently chillax, so make the most of it lest tomorrow ye be cut!

Boy, a lot sure happened in 2022, like ... umm ... hmm ... yeah, what a shithole. Good riddance.

I watched a couple of crazy ass movies this weekend, both of them from 2022. One of them is called "Alienoid," and it was directed by Choi Dong-hoon, who directed one of my favorites, "Assassination" (2015), which stars my lovely wife, Ji-hyunie. That is a historical epic, and it is very complicated, but he is in total control of the whole thing from the first minute until the last. It is a masterpiece, and I don't say that lightly. He has made some other excellent films as well, but this is the first one since "Assassination." I read up on him, and the article said that he has been working for five years on "Alienoid" and its sequel. I was slightly disappointed in it (the film, not the article), because it really is all over the place - it has magic and sci-fi technology and time leaps. It's kind of cool, in its way, and a second viewing will make things much clearer than the original, but I wish it showed a little more restraint. I don't mind gonzo shit, obviously, but I don't necessarily think it serves him as well as others.

The second one I watched is called "Carter," and it is on Netflix. It has possibly the most kinetically-charged direction I have ever seen, and I have seen some wild, hyper shit. It's about a guy whose memory is wiped out (on purpose, by himself) who has to rescue the kidnapped daughter of a doctor who has managed to save her from a zombie plague by developing a vaccine. The plague started in the DMZ between North and South Korea, but the South is uneffected - the North is crammed full of zombies, but it has spread to the U.S. for ... reasons ... so the CIA is all over the place trying to get the vaccine. Or something. The action is off the charts, and there is a LOT of blood. It turns out it is going to have a sequel, too. It's one that I think you might actually enjoy watching, as long as you don't try to understand the entire story too much.

Here's hoping 2023 is nothing at all like 2022. For example, let's hope someone has a Come to Jesus talk with Travis f***ing Konecny.

With our Dealer’s Choice selection the Methgators will select something that our franchise and fanbase can certainly use: PRESIDENTIAL PARDONS!

The Honolululuemon Ghibli select as our Team Ancient Civilization: the Kingdom of Pagan

The Kingdom of Bagan/Pagan (849–1297 C.E.) was in modern day Myanmar and eventually constituted the first Burmese empire, before Mongol invasions caused its collapse.

It's not one of the BIG civilizations you'd regularly read about. But it has one special quality: building one of the greatest archaeological complexes ever. A Buddhist kingdom, the capital city of Bagan was home to 10,000 temples, monasteries, and pagodas -- over 2000 of which remain. Each unique, each with its own story of virtue or sin. It's one of the more amazing historical sites most don't really know about. A 40 sq. mile city of endless temples amid fields. I first heard of it in an episode if Parts Unknown where Anthony Bourdain traveled to Myanmar. It's an isolated country, so it's not overrun with tourists; it feels almost untouched by time.

Did someone say Lululemon? Proud plat

"The owners of the Tampa Bay FireSticks have long been enthusiasts of creativity in the music industry, including the advent of the music video. We thought long and hard of what stood out in our memories of the top videos with respect to great song, talented group, and creative video. Many came to mind and we painfully selected the one we thought to be the best. We therefore select the music video for Land of Confusion (Genesis).

"Is it outdated in both content and milieu? Of course. This video was released 30 years ago, after all. The unflattering puppet depictions of the band and a host of political leaders and celebrities were created by the makers of Spitting Image, a popular satirical UK show.

"Enough said at this point. We will wait anxiously with the rest of you for @JojoTheWhale's next pick."

Looks like 2023 is going to be an aggressive dickhead, rather than a sneaky dickhead.

We start the day with @Young Sandwich on the clock, @Lord Defect on deck, pit on the lido deck, and mja on the lido afterdeck. I am hoping that @GKJ will eventually make up his pick, and everyone else can make up their picks in due course.

So much has happened over the last few picks. Toe spelled her name "Chleopatra":laugh::laugh: I find that fun and hilarious, and I imagine there are many Chleopatras with Twitch accounts twitching over League of Legends and the like. So much fun. But then Bernie selected the video that I had said we should set aside as the Spite Music Video for the whole Quackverse :laugh::laugh: That is also hilarious and a lot of fun. I will think of another spite video for all of us - I already have three in mind which have no chance of being selected for anything ever - and I will not allow Bernardo to change his pick, because the primary goal is always to let people have what they want. It's just fun and hilarious. What's less fun is thinking of MacGruber choosing a civilization that is completely overrun with not only cobras, but king cobras. I will NOT be visiting that hellhole.

What is even less fun than that is hearing from the Pervert that Netflix is cancelling "1899" after one season. Although it's not the first time it has happened, this is ominous shit to see them doing this, cancelling a high-concept show like that. It is practically miraculous that we get all these foreign shows on there in the first place, especially if you have lived through the days of having six channels maximum to choose from, and you'd like to think that things like low ratings for some of them shouldn't really cripple a subscription-based streamer. You'd hope that all they need to do is pile on the crowd-pleasing gunk (plus crowd-pleasing good shit) to keep the accounts renewing and carry the stuff which is more high-brow and above the intellect of the general populace. But counting on businessmen to do the right thing is almost always a losing bet.

F***, that bums me out.

Perfect timing for our ancient civilization pick. Those f***ers at Netflix will pay for their atrocities. Just look how pissed off King Ashurnasirpal II got over a simple rebellion. Imagine what he does when I tell him the dumb motherf***ers cancelled 1899?

I built a tower over against his city gate and I flayed all the chiefs who had revolted, and I covered a tower with their skin. Some I walked up within the tower, some I impaled upon the tower on stakes, and others I bound to stakes around the tower …

Many captives from among them I burned with fire, and many I took as living captives. From some I cut off their noses, their ears, and their fingers, of many I put out the eyes. I made one pile of the living and another of heads, and I hung their heads from tree trunks around about the city, Their young men and maidens I burned up in the fire. Twenty men I captured alive and walled them up in his palace … The rest of the warriors I consumed with thirst in the desert.

I absolutely have the memory of a fruit fly and don't remember anything about Land of Confusion ... which invites you all to link me to the 750 posts about exactly this. The site's search function didn't want to be helpful in this regard either.
