Are you guys familiar with what Voynov did and how it could be difficult for him to be approved to enter Canada or the US?
With regards, I think this is a completely separate issue (which might or not be an issue).
As in, this isn't what the NHL is reviewing. His inadmissibility would be determined by the CBSA.
So a ban in NHL automagically means ban in World Cup? Sounds like another reason why a tournament ran by a league is a bad idea.
The NHL wouldn't be doing its job if it didn't find out ahead of time if Voynov is even eligible to enter the country given his record. No doubt that's part of its review.
Imagine how many players the nfl would have if they banned every player convicted of a violent crime..
Most of those players couldn't have been threatened with deportation...
I moved this post out of the locked thread that had no links to your other claim about Russia's intent.
Let's start with what is known, that the NHL and PA have to review Voynov's eligibility.
It would be great if Russia withdrew from this tournament – not because I am sympathetic to Voynov but because then this would be even more of a joke.
I wonder what they would replace Russia with.
Team Retired perhaps.
Patrick Roy, Mats Sundin, Peter Forsberg, Mike Modano, Mario Lemieux, Brendan Shanahan, Theo Fleury, Al MacInnis, Temmu Selanne, Eric Desjardins etc.
Just think of the ratings!
Any sort of pondering if there is any sort of "test ball" element towards the organizing party and its home countries here is probably completely off-limits at least at this point? Namely I mean the sort of questions if Russia intentionally named Voynov to the team to get a reaction, for some reason.
i'd be in favour of our team skipping the whole tournament, if that's the case. but it's out of the question i quess.
