I think this happened with the Canucks when Tocchet first came aboard, players wanted to be early to start camp. Ended up being a team fine.

Depending on what "deep" trouble means, the 2nd tweet says the league reminded teams not to do this days ago. So it could be a pick

The Leafs got a 100k fine 2 years ago for flying out to St Louis an hour and a half early.
So there is definitely some precedent here.

And before anyone try’s to say it was an optional skate vs a mandatory flight, the players unanimously voted to fly out early as it avoided some inclement weather. Other wise they would have had faced long delays on a flight on game day.

CBA is a contract agreement between employer and employees…….it covers both the cap and required days off.

But that is not any violation the NHL is doing to the players. Like the process already includes the NHLPA and second opinions with independent doctors.

In this case, the NHL can be sued by the NHLPA and it also weakens relations to not respond right before CBA negotiations start

Either the players are to stupid to understand they do not need to practice during the break, or they are to stupid to realize this is what they wanted in the newest CBA and it will be the first thing the league uses as leverage come CBA talks in 2 years.

I mean I get it. It’s supposed to be a no exceptions rule negotiated into the CBA by both the players and the owners.
In theory the players had to give something else up to get this.

Really for a team with the Leafs finances 100K was probably just worth it for them.

Yes, I know that’s my point.

They can’t see the trees through the forest at times.

I'm just saying their priorities are business first and they don't really care about the game. That is just a product to make money they have no desire to actually positively influence the sport if it isn't quick cash.

This can hurt their money making, that doesn't
