NHL investigating Dallas Stars for CBA violation (upd: fined)

I mean I get it. It’s supposed to be a no exceptions rule negotiated into the CBA by both the players and the owners.
In theory the players have something else up to get this.
Really for a team with the Leafs finances 100K was probably just worth it for them.
It's not about the money...it's a common sense issue.

In theory, spend an hour to go earlier and no delays vs. going at the designated time and delayed for 3 hours.

I'm just saying their priorities are business first and they don't really care about the game. That is just a product to make money they have no desire to actually positively influence the sport if it isn't quick cash

Business is also fans…….fans see this type of thing and just shake their heads how dumb the NHL is at times

But they still watch. I think the NHL has shown they don't really care about what fans think (rule changes, moving ad boards, ads on jersey and helmet, etc). So long as they will still watch they deem it acceptable.

So make an exception instead of actually sticking to the rule? How about we just accept the fine for breaking the rule without any complaints?

Nobody has an issue with the Leafs players/staff deciding to do it. But it broke a rule. So it was rightfully fined. It seems like you think it should not of been fined, but I think the Leafs should of just outright said. Hey we are breaking this timeframe and are willingly to pay the fine for it to the convivence of our players. (maybe they did, but fans being bitter about it make it seem like not)

The money goes to the Nhl foundation and charities, like this isn't something they should be mad about paying.

Last time I saw a report on it about 6-8 weeks ago viewership is down this year vs last. I’m not saying your wrong, I’m saying the NHL at times is so dumb.

Don’t forget about the glowing puck so certain fans can follow the play haha

Sure and they still broke a rule in the CBA. Negotiated by both sides.
Like I said there are no exceptions to this kind of rule.
Allowing teams to break it for any reason puts the league in violation of their agreement with the players and could bring a lawsuit for breach of contract. In addition to making future CBA negotiations difficult.

The funny thing is DeBoer accidentally told on himself when talking to reporters today. He talked about the team's "optional" practice after Christmas, and that's when people caught on about the rule being broken.

But I do wonder if a player also called the PA about it.

How’s that telling on himself? Like he wasn’t allowed to have an optional practice either, or did he accidentally make it clear there wasn’t much “option”?

And people are poking fun, but this shit gets fought for so players can spend time with loved ones. If the owners had their way the players would be playing on Christmas for pennies, so shoot- if the boys wanted to regroup a day early, ok, but the rules are there so management don’t pull no shenanigans.

The league told teams to not even have the rink open. The Stars did.

But DeBoer also made it clear this was not an optional practice the rookies.

“I was at the rink yesterday—we had an optional—and of course the young guys all show up for the optionals, which they’re supposed to do,” said DeBoer with a laugh.

Hahaha what a f***in bozo, and that’s why “optional” shouldn’t really be a thing with your employer.

Good, I needed a new reason to dislike the Stars, Brett Hull shit got stale.

If there's one thing that sets my blood to boil it's teams providing optional ice time to their hockey players on their collectively bargained holiday time off.

The Leafs got a 100k fine 2 years ago for flying out to St Louis an hour and a half early.
So there is definitely some precedent here.

And before anyone try’s to say it was an optional skate vs a mandatory flight, the players unanimously voted to fly out early as it avoided some inclement weather. Other wise they would have had faced long delays on a flight on game day.

I’m glad the league tried to put an end to good planning decisions

NHL banning young players from hanging out with teammates at a free skate at the team facility is the funniest thing ever.

NO YOU MUST STAY AT HOME ALONE AND CAN'T TRAIN!

Funny, NHL makes this a big deal but ignores teams circumventing the cap to cheat and win in the playoffs.
Name one team that has actually violated salary cap rules, as outlined in the CBA, and not been punished.

Hell, there have even been instances of teams being punished retroactively for salary cap "circumvention" after the CBA has changed.
