NHL investigating Dallas Stars for CBA violation (upd: fined)

Well, again, if that's the case then maybe DeBoer is pushing the line to see what kind of reaction he gets. And yeah I don't think he meant it explicitly either, regarding the young guns.

Probably should've just kept his mouth shut, but oh well. Too late now lol

I wouldn't call it "excited" but I do find all the commotion rather amusing.

A simple optional skatearound during the holidays = "omg you guys, Dallas is violating the CBA, get 'em!"

I dunno, I just find it kinda funny.
So if a couple of other teams that got fined for the same thing in the past, why should Dallas not be fined.

You find it funny that people have a problem with a team violating a rule meant specifically to protect players' family time during a widely celebrated holiday. Sports may have influenced your perspective in some troubling ways. Players are human beings and deserve to have some stress-free time off, hence the rule. They aren't slaves performing for our entertainment.

But you've been told all of this and still think it's funny, so whatever. Hope you enjoy time with your family.

Ok? At no point have I suggested otherwise. :dunno: :biglaugh:

I feel like you're forgetting it was an optional skate. As in, not mandatory.

Dallas "violating the rule" is completely harmless as a result, but like I've said earlier rules is rules so, again, Gagliardi will cut a check. No biggie. :dunno:

It's only fair when it's a Canadian team :sarcasm:

We finally have a base conversion rate of Canadian : American punishment.

$100,000 USD from an American team = First round draft pick (mainly from Ottawa.)

Yes except you keep leaving out the point that your coach said optional doesn't mean optional for some players.

It's pretty clear to everyone else and the NHL what was going on, yet you keep on wanting to bend things into them being ok in some way. If just an optional skate was ok then they wouldn't have been fined to start with.

In elite sports, there’s no such thing as a truly optional practice. Coaches 100% keep track of who shows up and who doesn’t. Now, that doesn’t mean that your top player can’t take a rest day to stay off that sore ankle. But your 4th line rookie decides to stay home and play video games instead of coming to the rink? That’s absolutely taken note of and you bet your ass it shows up in evaluations of how competitive the player is, whether he’s coachable, whether he’s likely to improve going forward, etc. This is not some state secret, it’s standard practice in pretty much all leagues above rec league.

The practice of doing this becomes “harmful” when the coaches schedule optional-but-not-really practices over a holiday break. It’s basically telling the players to choose between staying in the coaches’ good graces, or seeing their families for Christmas. There’s a reason this is in the CBA in the first place, it’s an inappropriate thing to do.
