Pat Flatley?!?! Do you mean LaFontaine?

No. LaFontaine is in the HHOF.

In terms of HHOVG (this thread) I meant the Isles 1st round pick and 5-year captain of the Islanders, Pat Flatley, "The Chairman of the Boards", one of the greatest role players in franchise history.

Here is Flatley outmuscling LaFontaine:

I'm going to say what everyone is thinking but doesn't have the guts to say. There's no way in hell that Harry Mummery belongs in this discussion.

The two-time Stanley Cup champion defenseman who is in the Manitoba Hall of Fame? He is often drafted in the All-Time Drafts (the ATD board here at HfBoards) as a depth option. He's closer to being a HHOFer than he is being a joke, Mr. Zen. HHOVG suits him.

No points in 4 games with the 22-23 Saskatoon Crescents says otherwise.

I'll go with guys I consider just below HOF level, or debatable.

Larmer
Doug Wilson
Roenick
Nicholls
Tkachuk

I would vote for the first three for HOF if I had a vote, but they were the heart of my team when I had my season tickets, so I can see how they're boderline. But all of them would be first ballot in my HOVG.

Bernie Nichols?

def in. a step above everyone else you mentioned.

dino ciccarelli. no business in the hall.

I know that LaFontaine is in the Hall. I just can't believe that someone would possibly make a case for Flatley being even close to Hall-worthy.

Kevin Stevens
Martin Straka
Alexei Kovalev
Ulf Samuelsson
Markus Naslund
Chris Kunitz
Robert Lang
Sergei Gonchar (edit: although I think he will be elected to the HHOF by 2025)
Tom Barrasso
Matt Cullen

Personally I think Kronwall should be in not first ballot but I'd induct him best shutdown defenseman of his era I'd say right behind chara. Anderson is in. Middleton, and zubov should be in imo. Same with Wilson, I'll throw Adam foote as a borderline candidate cuz he didn't get a lot of credit as a d-man, same with ozolinsh.

Tkachuk and Nichols should be in imo let Roenick wait until NBC's deal is up in 2021, so we don't have to listen to him. Wilson id say is borderline. Same with Larmer he's another borderline guy.

My general line is that Owen Nolan is the best player who I really can't be bothered listening to a Hall of Fame argument for. If you're better than Nolan, I take it seriously, even if I'm not committing to voting for. I'm probably out on Vincent Lecavalier and the Hall, but I'll listen. Someone like uhh Simon Gagne, or Alex Tanguay (two guys who I think maybe have cases if they didn't have some rough circumstances/injuries during their prime-age years), no, they're not even quite Nolan, I'm not bothering with that.

As for Naslund, I kinda think he's got a sneaky HOF case, but I still prooooobably don't vote for him.

D-Men with Weber's resume are in the HHOF, WITH ONE NOTABLE EXCEPTION, and Shea Weber would be a very odd candidate to start the trend of leaving them out (provided he continues to add games).

EDIT : The notable exception is Carl Brewer. The catch : Weber already has more complete seasons than Brewer.

0 Cups
0 Norris
0 Conn Smythes
0 Harts
2 first team all-star selections

If Weber gets in the Hall then you have to let the likes of Mike Green and Dion Phaneuf in as well.

So pointing out Harts and CS trophies are ridiculous and not relevant.

His Norris voting record is very good, and he has 4 post-season all star awards. 9 straight seasons as top 10 in Norris voting, 4 post season all stars, and 3 times a finalist. That is (likely) Hall worthy, although hopefully he waits a bit.
