This thread is an indictment on Shanny .. great courage and fearless yes .. but frankly just not smart enough upstairs .. I m sure new prez has figured it out by now .. when a team is led by a C/D student it is difficult to build a top team .. presence/character alone is not enough

Saw a video of this report being reviewed and they suggested a bunch of Leafs haters voted.

Pretty much said, how can a team that is always in the playoffs be worse than teams that are never in the playoffs?

Any reasonable person would come to the same conclusion, if they exclude the crazies.:nono::noway:
I have zero faith in the team's management for a pretty simple reason. Despite being gifted the greatest goal scorer of a generation, arguably the greatest player in franchise history, and despite managing to draft two additional elite offensive talents for him to play with, the team under Shanahan and Co has won a whopping one playoff series. Any moves they've made have been largely underwhelming, they brought in a new GM whose track record is frankly horrific.

Yeah, the team is making the playoffs while other teams are not. But that is not the expectation we should have for that club, is it? Is that really your bar?

We've been patient. I said many times "Wait and see, let them grow, they'll get there" and it never happened. It's more of the same every single year. Anything short of a Cup win at this point is a failure and any competent front office would have torn the whole thing apart by now. Instead, they rearrange the deck chairs without addressing the water pouring through the gaping hole in the hull.

Agree we would like to see more success, but would running with management that doesn't even have to make a playoffs move in half a decade would be better? Of course some of those teams just replace their failures every couple years so there is a facade of improvement. There is no improvement, but they can just blame the previous patsies.

Sharks, Sabres, Ducks, Hawks, Flyers (whoever that is this year), Senators (whoever that is this year), Columbus (who was there when the vote happened).

I agree, there'd be more time for doing non-hockey stuff since playoffs don't exist.

When your management team does the bare minimum 2 off-seasons in a row, it's not really surprising the confidence level is very low.

Their problem has been two-fold.

  1. Drafting the wrong players
  2. Trying to win
Playoffs show not all their top players can handle the pressure. Other stars can step up, Leafs stars don't deliver. Three players have been making double digit salaries and their play takes a serious drop-off in the post season.

For how many years in a row did they burn assets that could have been used to improve the team long term. They should not have been trying to win. Should have taken the road traveled by the Sabres, Sharks, Ducks, Coyotes and just kept adding to their depth.

Going 4-5 years without going for it might have enabled them to add more competent depth players. Maybe hit a homerun with someone who can handle playoffs pressure?
